haluga Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I would like to get my masters in CS and start working in the industry immediately afterwards. The school I'm really considering is Cal Poly SLO for a number of reasons. My undergrad is in something else and they take students with bachelors in other fields. Tuition is cheaper compared to UCs among other things 1. What kind of reputation does Cal Poly San Luis Obispo have among employers in silicon valley etc (I happen to be from SV so I'm just wondering) 2. I could try for San Jose State as well and I would not have to move but what do you think about San Jose State's reputation in comparison with Cal Poly's? Does it matter that much? Is there are pretty big difference? 3. Are there any schools (in the country) that are pretty generous in giving stipends and fellowhsips such that you think I could get a full ride with my stats? (3.65 undergrad gpa in environmental studies, GRE: verbal - 720, quant - 770, writing - 5.5) Money is a rather significant consideration for me so even if it's not a super highly ranked university but provides funding for a masters program, that would make a difference.
dntw8up Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 There are few places that fund MS slots, and applicants for those tend to have higher stats. Since money is a concern it sounds like San Jose State is the most financially feasible option because you would not have to move. It's not Stanford or Cal, but it is well-known in SV.
