Hi.

So I was browsing for an academic path after graduating with a BA degree in political science. While i was looking through poli-sci related programs I found that Harvard has a PhD program in Government aside from Harvard Kennedy School's government-related programs. I know that HKS is a professional school and accepts candidates with substantial work exp (which I don't have)... So I was wondering if anyone knows what this PhD in Government is all about and how difficult it is to get into the program (in terms of Numbers and WE)?

thanks!

#1 program (along with Stanford and Princeton).

accordingly very difficult to get in.but no work experience is necessary.

Government is how Harvard says Political Science, so it's just like traditional departments elsewhere. Treat it the same way you would Stanford/Yale Political Science and Princeton Politics.

You need top grades..top GRE scores..amazing SOP..amazing REC's...

This. And even if you have those, so will one or two hundred other people. Obviously, I know nothing about your credentials or plans, but I'd advise you not to put all your eggs in the Harvard basket.

If somehow this wasn't clear, the PhD program in government or political science is training to become a professor. The HKS PhD might be useful in a career outside academia.
