My background:CS Major at a small liberal arts college in the USOverall GPA: 3.5, Major GPA: 3.8GRE, Quant: 770, Verb: 490, Writing: 5.01 Paper accepted at regional conference, presented1 REU with paper submitted to regional conference, 1 poster submitted to low-tier national conference2 Research projects in progress3 Letters of recommendation from professors I've done research withInterested in NLP, Information Retrieval, and Databases I think that is it...let me know if there is any other info you need. Schools:NYUUniversity of California - RiversideHarvardUniversity of WashingtonBoston UniversityColumbia UniversityNortheastern UniversityUniversity of Pennsylvania(If you have any suggestions for schools in the areas I'm interested in please let me know, it's been difficult to find good matches) Thanks! newms Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 (edited) Hey stackoverflow, I think you have a pretty good range of schools that you should definitely be competitive at. Your research experience looks pretty good, especially if it's in the areas you're interested in for grad school. I'm not exactly in your area so I can't really comment on the strengths of those programs in those areas, but I've also heard that UM-CP has a good program in the areas you're interested in, so perhaps you could also check out their program if you haven't already. If you can put together a strong SoP and if your letters speak well of your research potential (as expected) then I'd think you'd have a pretty good chance with most (if not all) of the schools on your list.
