schy.seth Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Are there such things as research scholarships in the field of Psychology? In other words, I'm wondering if there is any chance (assuming I'm well qualified) to get granted a full-ride scholarship premised on the notion that I would do research to essentially "pay" for my degree? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Seth
PsychGirl1 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Are you talking about PhDs or some other degree?
lewin Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 For PhD, yes. I only applied to schools that offered full funding because I couldn't afford to go otherwise. There was no shortage of options.
Behavioral Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 It's typically the norm (for credible schools anyway) to offer tuition remission and some sort of stipend; it's usually an un-commonality if a school will accept a student without any funding.
PsychGirl1 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Yeah, I'm a bit confused about the scholarship thing. You can get grants/fellowships/scholarships towards your research from external sources- check the APA's website, for example. But in general, all research-based PhDs will offer free tuition and some form of stipend to support living costs.
pospsy Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 You should look into NSF GRFP or Ford Fellowship. These fellowships will pay for your tuition and give you a stipend that is likely higher than what a typical program offers. You can also take them to pretty much any grad program you want.

Sarahmarie Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Are "full rides" ever offered for master's level programs?
Behavioral Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Only for a very (by very, I mean I can probably count the number of programs with my fingers) select few do, and they're all Experimental Psychology MAs.
PsychGirl1 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Sarahmarie, I know the Villanova master's program gives out a decent number of full tuition + stipend scholarships. I think Boston College does full tuition reimbursement and a stipend as well, but I think they only tend to admit like, 2 people a year or something.
PsychGirl1 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 PS SarahMarie, there have been tons of threads about this in the past few months (master's and tuition reimbursement), so search some old threads :-)
Sarahmarie Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 I will...I just found this site today and I have been combing through it for hours Thanks for the info!
