Hi Guys,

I am part of a group of Stanford University students working on a project to understand the current college application process as well as the needs of prospective applicants.

We have prepared a 1 minute survey to understand the needs of college applicants better. Your feedback would be invaluable to our project:

In return, I would love to answer on this forum any questions you might have about Stanford University, our engineering program or the application process.

Thanks!

Hello rohangoel. I am and international student attending a medium sized (~25k students) state school and I have a question about the atmosphere for international students at Stanford, or any other "big" university out there (others can also answer this, please). Here at my university we have a lot of activities for international students, such as "Cultural Mentors" that help us on our first year, trips to the mountains and other places to discover what our state has to offer us, a weekly themed gathering for international students and everyone, and much more. All these activities have made me love my university and the people here and give me a feeling of homeliness.

My question is if Stanford or any other "big" university out there have similar activities and programs for international students.

Thank you.

PS: I will be applying to grad school in one year.

Hi Orims,

Absolutely! There are a number of cultural and international student associations here at Stanford, and I am sure at any other university as well. The bigger the school, the more the population of international students and more likely it is for international organizations to be active. At Stanford, there is a huge Chinese association as well as Indian association. I know they have regular events and cultural celebrations. There is a big mentor-mentee program in the Indian association at Stanford, where you can get help and advice on pretty much anything you want to know about. Besides these formal organizations, no mater what your nationality may be, I can guarantee that you will find a number of students of similar interests and backgrounds that you will like to socialize with.

Besides your own culture, there is a lot to learn about other cultures. At Stanford in particular, there is never a dearth of different and interesting things to do. There are a number of international (South American, European etc) dance events and lessons all year round. I went to Georgia Tech for my undergrad, and the story was no different there either.

In summary, I feel the "big" schools you are referring to will only have these activities and programs compounded!

Good Luck!
