Tritonetelephone Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Thanks for the idea, t_ruth and ridgey! If you have taken the GRE more than once in the last 5 years, choose the highest of your GRE verbal scores.
mraig Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Perfect 800--I was shaking when the score came up on the screen! Unfortunately, my programs (MFA) don't seem to put a great deal of emphasis on the GRE. Not that that helps me any with the 20$ per school reporting fee.
Tonights Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Ha. You can tell by this that we don't have a representative sample here - so many folks above the 90th percentile!
ohheygradschool Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Thanks for doing the verbal poll. The quant one was making me feel so inadequate!
Tritonetelephone Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Thanks for doing the verbal poll. The quant one was making me feel so inadequate! Tell me about it. Here, I'm happy to feel average
willtherebestars Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I made the mistake of completely overcompensating and studied extremely hard for the quantitative. I did WAY better than I was expecting on that section, but my verbal score suffered, at which I was very disappointed b/c my practice tests were going well. Did anyone get two verbal sections?
Tritonetelephone Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 Did anyone get two verbal sections? Yes, they often "guinea pig" new questions/formats after you finish the real test. I liked the new format of the experimental section, but I started to rush through it because I was so anxious to see my scores. Then I started to worry that it would somehow count for something (it doesn't). http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menu ... l_CBT_Test

I had these experiences - the studying, the scores, and the two verbal sections. I feel a little bad about my verbal score, but hope that my writing sample (and three foreign languages on my transcript) will make up for it.
Astaroth Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Sounds like my 670 falls smack in the middle. Maybe the Gaussian distribution should be renamed the GRE Verbal distribution?
Phonologist Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Just posting to express my appreciation for that beautiful distribution before it gets messed up. Never forget.
Tritonetelephone Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 It looks pretty now, but that's only because 800 is all by itself
socialpsych Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Oh, I think it's pretty robust. A lot more people have responded to the poll since I posted, and it's still just as pretty.
