ReadsEnochian Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Hi ya'll! I'm trying to figure out how to start a critical response essay as the title says, BUT the questions are if the book lived up to my expectations or not. Seems like a basic response to me, but I still need the: problem/thesis, evidence, and point/conclusion. I'm thinking the thesis/problem should be "did this live up to my expectations?" Any ideas? I'm bugging out! Sigaba 1
Ennue Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) I bet your program has a Writing Center. Go there. They exist to help you. Edit: ugh, now it sounds as if I think the WC will write their paper for them. I don't. I think they are experts at getting people to write their own papers Edited October 20, 2011 by Ennue Sigaba 1
Mal83 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 A trip to the writing center is definitely in order. Not sure that what you've posted is sufficient for anyone here to help you with this.
crbn Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Not sure if you've already handed in the essay, but I thought I would reply anyway. From my experience, the best way to structure a critical thinking essay is: argument, counter-argument, counter-argument TO counter-argument. That means that you set up your argument (what your expectations were; this is the thesis), then offer counter arguments to your argument (conflicting evidence why your expectations may not have been upheld, then tear down that counter argument with all your evidence showing that it actually was held up. I hope this helps!
