Ed_Doc Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 At what level, Masters or Doctorate? At some schools, the difference is quite pronounced. Are you interested in learning more about the topic in general, and how to apply the concepts...or are you more interested in doing independent research in that field?
michigan girl Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Sorry for not being clear in my original post -- I was referring to PhD programs.
PhDreams Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Hey Michigan girl. Im applying to the same schools for the sociology & Ed programs. Have you started your apps yet?
michigan girl Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 Hello FutureEdStudent12, I applied to Penn GSE for my master's degree (Higher Education) because I like the flexibility and diversity of their program offerings.
PhDreams Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I'm applying to Penn too. Haven't submitted my app yet. Cultural Studies focus.

I got my masters at Penn. One great thing is that they have really close connections with the Phila School District so that will provide you with opportunities to do research in a large urban school district. They also have a joint PhD with the sociology dept.....Dr. Annette Lareau is amazing and could add another dimension to your education studies.... I was considering Harvard but I felt like they might not be as interested in urban education. Who did you list as possible advisors? I felt like there was maybe one person and everyone else was kind of a stretch.
