kphd Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Hi! I have a GPA of around 2-2.5. in equally bad in both undergrad (commerce, business, accounting) and Masters (Economics). I have a decent GRE score of above 1400, quant - 720-800 and verbal 700-800. Final score will be available in mid-november. I am interested in pursuing a PhD in communication. Something like the program at UC San Diego seems very suitable to my interests, but I might be aiming too high. Can anyone kindly suggest point to me the kind of universities that I should target? I will need full funding... Any advice will be highly appreciated.
kphd Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 btw I forgot to mention I have worked for 3 years. have decent LORs from work. I will prepare a SoP that will be a good fit for the university..
tealover Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Hey Kphd! I graduated from UCSD with a degree in Communication. Working with several admission committee members I can tell you that the GRE holds little weight. What is the equivalent gpa for our 4.0 scale? The average I believe is in the high 3.7s and above. They put most weight on how you will fit in the department. They look to your SOP where it would be in your best interest to show how you understand the theories we use and how your experience lends itself to your success in our department. Definitely be specific about your research goals, faculty you want to work with (name a couple at least), and ultimate goals. Best of luck!!
tealover Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 If you could describe your research interests we could help guide you better on what other universities to apply.
