Has anyone else noticed that University of Wisconsin-Madison has started posting rejections? I've been constantly refreshing my application status since then!

So it seems that as of an hour ago, UMich notified accepted applicants via phone. So I guess that means rejection for everyone else? Sigh...

I'm wondering the same thing...

Yeah, potential bummer about Michigan for me too. I just found this website today because obsession is setting in, and I promised myself that I wasn't going to look at it anymore...but here I am.

I guess I don't have much of a right to be disappointed; I've been accepted to Northwestern, Minnesota, and U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (I'm not trying to rub it in, honestly. I realize how lucky I am.) But I'm still waiting for the really big ones: Berkeley, UCLA, Penn, and Michigan. Well, I guess I can cross Michigan off the list.

Best of luck to everyone, really.

Liz, you were accepted to UIUC and UMN for English? When was this and how did they notify (by email, phone, mail)? I haven't seen any other news from these schools

Silibance--

I found out about Minnesota first, and that was by phone on Jan. 18. I got a letter from the English department at UIUC on Jan. 30, and I got an official notification via a message from the application system today.

Liz - Those dates are super early for those programs - did they say anything about your circumstances being unique? Neither program notified until the second half of February last year. Another question: this is for the PhD and not the MA? I'm really trying to make sense of these dates.

Seriously, people. there is no such thing as an 'implied rejection.'

when you have the letter in your hand (or email in your box etc), that's when you know.

Well, if you checked the WGI boards you would know that all acceptances for Duke had already gone out. So, seriously, I am just being realistic because I didn't get a phone call. Just holding out hope now for the waiting list. But yes, I do agree, one should never assume it is an automatic "no," because stranger things have happened.

In the case of Minnesota (a PhD), I think the early date was due to an impending deadline for a university-wide fellowship that they wanted to nominate me for, but I'm speculating there. As for UIUC (MA/PhD), I did a summer research program there over the summer and worked with a senior faculty member, so perhaps that was my foot in the door for an early acceptance (again, speculation).

I hope these details don't make you agonize any more than you already are. Good luck.

Has anyone else heard from UIllinois-Urbana-Champaign? The confirmation email they sent they'd be notifying in March. Is that just the "we'll tell you by then at the latest?" guarantee? Liz-- Congrats on getting in. Did they give you any info about how many applied and how many offers they'd be making? I felt pretty confident I'd get in there since my test scores and grades are well above the averages on their website, but now I'm freaking out about it. Any info you might have would be really appreciated. Congrats again.

Thanks for the congrats, lyoness. But please don't freak out! Unfortunately, I don't have any more info about U of I, but I don't think you should give up hope yet. This is still really early in the game, and I'm shocked to have heard from anyone yet.

bowdoinstudent, did you receive a call saying you were being nominated for a fellowship? OSU shouldn't be sending out acceptances for anyone yet unless they're being nominated for a fellowship.
