stackoverflow Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Does anyone know if the "requirement" on Columbia's website that CS PhD applicants must take the subject test is actually enforced? There seems to be a lot of mixed information on their site/application.
cecsapp Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I had the same question as well. They said you will have to give a reason on the application on why you are not taking the test, and the website mentions that a valid reason is that the exam is not offered in some countries. Honestly, I am not willing to take the exam.

Honestly, I am not willing to take the exam. Exactly. My reason would simply be: you're the only school who actually wants it. And it's kind of useless...?
cecsapp Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Plus my background/qualifications are enough to show that I know CS material. Maybe I will call them on Monday.
shafiee01 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 It's my question too! and my answer: I didn't have money
cecsapp Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Update everyone.. I called them up and mentioned that I am doing my master's in CS and asked if the subject test is required, she said no. Only the general GRE test is required. I asked what should I put down as a reason for not taking the test she hinted it's not important what I put down.. So I am going with "Not taking the test" stackoverflow 1
