salman33 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 So the other day, I got a message from a second year Masters student. I did send an application to the school. In her message she said she wants to talk to me about my app, and formally introduced herself as a 2nd year. ANy thoughts, good or bad or not really anything? The school I am applying for is a masters, they generally receive about 100 apps, and invite about 50 for interviews. What do you guys think? thankssss!
socialpsych Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Can't be bad. Anytime they spend extra time talking to you personally, I think it's a good thing.
misterpat Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 They're secret agents sent on a misson by the department to determine if you lack social skills.
evenstar Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I also got a call from a grad student in the department but it was more of a 'I wanted to see if you had any questions about the program or anything' type call. Not sure if they do that for everyone, but I wonder if they call all applicants or if this is a positive...wouldn't it be silly to call applicants who were definitely not in the running? He did send me a really long email reply about the program and such. Hmm...I hate over analyzing. I think I shall stop...haha, not.
IvyHope Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 In our department, we were asked as graduate students to contact all prospective students to see if they had questions. I'm pretty sure they hadn't made decisions yet. The prospectives were divided up and each of us contacted a few.

Oh well only one(ish) more week until I find out no more obsessing is near! *hopefully*
