Professor acceptance vs school acceptance

Hello all,

I have a couple of questions regarding admittance. I recently interviewed with a professor and later on he sent an email saying he put in the word to accept me. How gauranteed is the acceptance? How long does it take until I receive the official letter?

Second question, if I do not get interviewed by any professor at a certain school does it automatically mean that I am rejected? I.e. Do PhD adcomms interview all candidates they accept?

It depends on the school and how the operate. At some the committee has to accept you at others professors accept you. And no, some schools do not do interviews and if they do do interviews and you didn't get one there's nothing wrong keeping hope alive.

Wow! That certainly sounds promising. I have never heard of a situation like this so I am afraid I cannot give you any helpful info but I am interested to hear what people have to say about this topic.

Like those above me said, it depends on the school. For the schools and programs I applied to (engineering in Canada) if a professor accepted you and your GPA was over a 3.0, you were in.
