rogerfed Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I know this is pretty late, but Brown is one of the few programs that has a very late deadline (Feb 1). I am thinking of applying there in comparative politics (democracy and citizens behavior). Is anyone familiar with the program there? How competitive is the admission to Brown? (According to the ranking, brown ranked pretty low in the list 40ish).
Penelope Higgins Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 It is more competitive than its ranking would suggest: it draws lots of applications from people blindly applying to Ivy League schools. Then again, for comparative, I think it is a stronger department than its overall ranking indicates.
hupr Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 If you're at all interested in India, Brown is a good place to be, especially with Varshney attracting a lot of people. And more generally, like Penelope said, comparative politics seems to be a lot stronger than their overall ranking would suggest. That said, it's a small department, and you might run into problems if you go there to work with just 1 person who later ends up taking off somewhere else...
