eastwind87 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I heard from Carnegie Mellon for Statistics more than a week ago, but am still waiting on UPenn, Columbia, Harvard, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Yale, and Cornell. Just wondering if anybody else has heard back from any of these schools? Thanks!
cwbs Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I heard from Carnegie Mellon for Statistics more than a week ago, but am still waiting on UPenn, Columbia, Harvard, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Yale, and Cornell. Just wondering if anybody else has heard back from any of these schools? Thanks! i applied to those schools for statistics as well, minus CMU and Duke, and have yet to hear from any of them. also applied to some other statistics programs, none of which i have heard back from either. my guess (hope?) is that most stats departments are just on a later schedule. on a somewhat related note, does anyone know if statistics departments typically do interviews or prospective student visit days, or if they just go straight to acceptance/rejection?
eastwind87 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Did you apply to PhD or Masters? I applied to PhD. From what I know, there's no interview. I did get invited to CMU's stat department open house in late February -- sounds like they invited all of their admitted students.
nandelle Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I applied for a master's in statistics from University of Washington, University of British Columbia, University of Minnesota, and UC Irvine...so far I've only heard back from Minnesota (admitted, yay!) but UW is my top choice, and so far...nothing. Their deadline was Jan. 1st so I'm getting a little nervous! To the OP - congratulations on CMU! That's awesome.
Antonitsin Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I ve applied for Master at 10 canadian grad schools-nothing yet, u of calgary wrote that they will have decision till end of Febrary...waiting
nandelle Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Antonitsin, have you heard from UBC yet, if you applied there?
skibum1981 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Accepted: Cornell (wait on funding), Michigan Rejected: Berkeley, Brown (App Math), Columbia Waitlist: Duke, Washington Pending: Chicago, UCLA
asang Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Anyone heard from Columbia for PhD in Statistics yet?
asang Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I emailed the administrative assistant there today but haven't heard from him yet. I believe people accepted have been already notified? I guess no news yet is definitely bad news.
waitingforgodot Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I e-mailed the admin assistants in both the Department and the Graduate School. Haven't heard from the Dept., and the Grad School guy said that decision letters would go out after March 15th.
asang Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 thank you for sharing the info with us. I guess March 15th is awefully late. Can they just send out the result via email?
waitingforgodot Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I would say there's still some hope...I still don't see any acceptances on the results board...so chin up!
skibum1981 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Columbia GSAS will send out decisions, but if you want to know your result right now, all you have to do is call: Dood Kalicharan Department Administrator Phone: 212.851.2130 Fax: 212.851.2164 Email: dk@stat.columbia.edu She'll ask you to send an email to verify you are who you say you are. Then she'll tell you the result.
eastwind87 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Has anyone heard from Penn? I contacted their dept to ask about the status of my application. It's been a week - and no response.
asang Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I called Columbia. They said I will receive the result within a week. sucks.
waitingforgodot Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I also contacted the Penn Doctoral Admissions Group a couple of days ago but haven't heard anything from them yet.
mt7j Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Hello, are you applying for Phd or master? I was accepted in Cornell MPS in stat and CMU MPS in stat. still waiting for columbia, stanford and UNC.
eastwind87 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 I'm applying for PhD. Congrats on your admits!
waitingforgodot Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Hi I am applying for a Ph.D in Penn (they don't have a Masters) and Columbia. I assume Masters' results may be out a little later than the Ph.D results.
yopper Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Hi, I was wondering if there's funding(including TAship) available for Master's program in Stats. If so, which schools? Thanks!
nandelle Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I think funding for master's students depends on the program and the year. This year, there's not a lot of funding for anyone, and master's students get shafted. Other years, though, I"ve known of people getting TAships witih tuition remission and a stipend for master's. Congratulations on everyone who's gotten acceptances! that's very exciting.
asang Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Sorry for a digression from the above posting. Is it a "must" to visit schools once you get accepted? Would it be frowned upon by the schools if I decline to visit due to busy work schedule?
