guin07 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Has anyone who has applied to Yale's PhD program in biostatistics heard anything? Or does anyone know if Yale interviews their PhD biostats applicants? I noticed in the results survey they interview their epi candidates and that a lot of them have already heard since the interview weekend is Feb 13th. Any insight would be helpful - thanks!
Hanyuye Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I don't know if you checked, but the results are in, I was rejected by Yale for the PHD Biostatistics/Epidemiology. This sucks bad, really bad. 5 rejections and 2 left to know about.
neonwarp Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 i was waitlisted by yale for the phd biostatistics yesterday.
Biostat_Assistant_Prof Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I'll be applying next year to many programs and Yale is on my list.... Out of curiosity, what was your GPA and GRE scores?
guin07 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 I ended up getting waitlisted as well - found out yesterday. Neonwarp - did you decide to go on the waitlist or aware you planning to attend somewhere else?
neonwarp Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I'm planning to attend Columbia this fall for biostatistics, as I don't think Yale will get back to us before the April 15th deadline. Are you going on the waitlist?
guin07 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 I went on the waitlist...Yale is my first choice. I agree that they prob won't get back to us before April 15th though.
Hanyuye Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Wow, everyone's on the waiting list?! Absurd with the credentials we all have, considering their program isn't even in the top 20 nationally, I would expect them to be more lenient towards applicants. But then again, I'm pretty sure hordes of folks just wanted to get in based on the prestige alone and not department.
guin07 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 The difference with Yale is that, from what i understand, the program is really small and they only accept 2 (sometimes 3) students a year. So I think that even though they aren't top 20 nationally, it's still very competitive. On top of that, it seems that the applicant pool was also very competitive this year for phd programs. Hanyuye Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I spoke with the graduate advisor and she told me that they accept within 10-12 PHD students a year out of an applicant pool or more.
guin07 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Oh really? One of their faculty members told me that they only accept the 2, sometimes 3, students per year. Quite conflicting information! Hanyuye 1
