AkashC Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) HELLO! School requirements: University of Pittsburgh & University of California, SD had this essay requirement, overall I think I came up with a pretty good, 'to the point' essay. GPA: 10th: 77 Pre-University: 12th: 70 Undergrad: FYB.Com: 47% SYB.COm: 55.33% TYB.COM: 76% Grad: M.Com I: 57 % class topper 69% M.Com II: Current academic year. GRE score: Quant: 150 Verbal: 148 AWA: 4.0 TOEFL: 104 (International Student) Work experience: No WORK EXP atall. I had mailed up a lot of universities and they clearly told me it is good if you have some experience but it is not required. Language skills: Hindi, English (Since I had to take TOEFL UC.SD told me it will fulfill my 2nd language requirement. Quantitative requirements: Did my Undergraduation in Accountancy, also had Mathematics and Statistics during my Pre-University years and also in my first year of graduation. Overseas experience (work, study and teaching): NOPE Statement of Purpose: I'd like to think it is pretty okay, I've stressed on alot of things that narrow in towards my ultimate goal for which international affairs would be perfect. I have included a couple of posts I had held during my under-grad years and yea basically it is an okay SOP overall. LOR My LORs are strong enough to get me into just about any field there is. But it is not the only thing considered. One of the Recommender for my NYU application is the DEAN of my department and hes also my strategic management professor. The letter had a lot of good things about me, and they were all very well supported with examples. Program applied to: International Affairs Fall 2012 University list 1.City College of New York, CUNY. 2.George Mason University. 3. Florida State University. 4. Georgia Institute of Technology. 5. Texas A&M 6. Syracuse (REJECT) 7. University of Pittsburgh 8. University of Georgia 9. New York University (NO GRE req, I mailed them up regarding me not having any work ex and I got a positive reply stating that I should instead be stating all the important positions held during my under grad study, strongest recommendations went here!) 10. George Washington University 11. University of California, San Diego 12. Boston University I am done applying but a reject from SYRACUSE has made me anxious, I am extremely worried at the prospect of denied an admission to each and every University I've applied to. But I am taking heart from the fact that SYRACUSE is ranked 1 for public affairs. How would you rate my chances. If you think I should be having a safe university in the mix, could you please suggest one to me. Edited February 1, 2012 by AkashC
domnulsl Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 1) The good thing is that you ALREADY APPLIED to a large, diverse group of schools so there is not much you can do now but to sit and wait patiently for the results. 2) The bad thing is that you really need some work experience, more language proficiency, and oversea work. Your GPA and GRE are borderline average so you really need other variables to make your application standout. For example, the average GPA of admitted students for MAIR at Syracuse is 3.66 and the Median GRE scores of admitted students: V: 530, Q: 660; AW: 4.0. So that is why you need work experience to offset the GPA and GRE. So if you want you can always take a year off to get the work experience, pick up Mandarin, or volunteer at NGOs. 3) But sometimes it is better to be lucky than good so if all your lucky stars aligned than you might just get in...Good Luck!!!
MYRNIST Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) Thread creation fail. Why not just post Edited February 1, 2012 by MYRNIST greendiplomat, fenderpete and MYRNIST 3
AkashC Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 They both look similar, dont they!? I wanted the exact same thread but specifically meant for International affairs/relation applicants. And since it is not happening, I wouldnt mind if it is merged with the original, or simply deleted
