TripWillis Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I just found out I was accepted! No word yet from the department on funding or anything else. Anyone else hear back?
R_Escobar Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 My application status changed to under committee review today, but that's it. Hoping to hear back this week since there are already two decisions posted on the results survey.
TripWillis Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Just read this on the results board from someone else who was accepted: " Follow-up from e-mail acceptance below--Received a letter from the DGS, and I was not offered any form of funding. Yikes! That makes me tense.
TripWillis Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 No funding, and I already got accepted to one of my top choices -- not likely I'll accept.
R_Escobar Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I still have not heard anything from Buffalo. However I was already accepted to Indiana Urbana-Champaign so I'm not sure it maters that much.
TripWillis Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I declined the offer of admission earlier this week. Hope that helps someone out.
R_Escobar Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I received an offer today with full funding!
TripWillis Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 I received an offer today with full funding! WHOA! Awesome! Congrats, Escobar! Huh. I wonder why they didn't offer me funding -- I've gotten funding from my other acceptances. Hmm.
DustSNK Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Congrats!! I went to Buffalo for a bit as a non-degree grad student. TAKE CANADIAN STUDIES 500 with Munroe Eagles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a god send. You will have to I think anyway for the degree. But it is a really nice department, good professors all around. But please take CND 500, remember it. Really really amazing course and teacher. I could go on about how great it is, and if you are doing American studies you would put your knowledge at risk by not doing it can't express that enough. The amount of things American you learn by understanding Canada is mindblowing. PM me if you have any questions.
R_Escobar Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Thanks Trip and Dust. Trip, from what I have heard the funding in the American Studies department is very limited. The funding I was offered is through a graduate school Fellowship, not directly through the department.

Yea it is a small small department, and part of a few others really like the Caribbean studies, and soon hopefully a full Canadian studies MA. One friend I had got his funding outside the department too. But there are really amazing professors in all the "studies" departments, esp the American one.
