Jazz388 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I agreed to go to OSU for clinical health psych starting in August. Anyone else joining me in Columbus? Jazz388 1
burgundykitten Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I'm moving to Columbus (application for OSU's MSW still "in review," but I'm moving regardless). I did my undergrad thesis in psych on a clinical health topic, what's your area of interest? Jazz388 1
Jazz388 Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 My background is in psychophysiology but I will going into psychoneuroimmunology. My research will focus on how serious illnesses, relationships, and food affect the immune system and autonomic nervous system. Jazz388 and burgundykitten 2
Sarah.rah5 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I got accepted into Ohio State's Occupational Therapy masters program. I haven't decided where I'm going yet, though I love Columbus and Ohio State (my Alma Mater). vamutchler and Jazz388 2
Jazz388 Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Congratulations! You're in the advantageous position of having good programs to choose from. And it's great to hear that you love Columbus and OSU. I really enjoyed my visit, even though it was 35 degrees and raining most of the time. Jazz388 1
Sarah.rah5 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Thank you! The weather during winter is not the best (though this year it has been pretty mild), but the rest of the time it is actually quite pleasant. Jazz388 and vamutchler 1 1
burgundykitten Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I got my acceptance status change today & got in, huzzah!!!
burgundykitten Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks!!! It's a nice weight off my shoulders, I've been able to breathe easier. Now I can just move on to being excited for the move to Columbus.
hlt0407 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I'm also starting the Occupational Therapy program at Ohio State in June! I went there for undergrad and loooooved it.
EquationForLife Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Congrats, I'm visiting next weekend to check it out Jazz388 1
echolikebells Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Congrats to everyone! Anyone here from one of the M.Ed cohorts? I've met the majority of the English group but we haven't had a chance to meet anyone from the other subjects.
POG0628 Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I will be joining you in the Clinical Psychology program actually. I do wonder, however, if anyone who has gotten in knows when we will be hearing the results of the university fellowship competition. I was somewhat unclear on that from the information they gave us at the interview weekend. Jazz388 1
Jazz388 Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 They are going to email us our funding offers March 14-16, although it says the fellowship results are supposed to have been posted by the grad school march 8, but I haven't seem them anywhere. Jazz388 1
echolikebells Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Interesting. I was under the impression that the fellowships for the entire university had been determined in February and recipients had been notified already. Glad to find out that is wrong!
Jazz388 Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 The dates I mentioned were provided to me by the clinical psych department. I think the March 8 date was when the grad school notified the department of the fellowship results, and the 14-16 is just when the department gets finished putting together the 5 year funding offer. So I'm not sure if this info applies to other academic areas
echolikebells Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Jazz388, I think it has to apply to other academic areas. OSU's fellowships are almost exclusively university-wide competitions. Department nominates students, those students are in competition with students from every other department, OSU's Graduate School decides, school notifies department, department notifies students. I'm sure your department has some department specific funding, I know Teaching and Learning does, so that might make the package notification different for each department, but I'm pretty sure fellowship decisions are made for everyone at the same time.
EquationForLife Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Yeah, my program told me it will be around 11-12 before they get the fellowship decision back form the university.
MA-SLP FTW Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Hi there! I'm starting OSU's speech path program in the fall. Just a heads up for anyone moving into the area: I've heard several recommendations to start looking for housing now, as this is when many current students are looking at leaving/renewing leases. Jazz388 1
echolikebells Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Seconding WannabeSLP's suggestion. As a current (undergrad) student at OSU, I can tell you most of the current students actually already did the housing search for fall--- back in January/February. The sooner you can look into housing up here, the better! (Don't take all the good ones-- leave me one! )
nechalo Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 As a current OSU undergrad I've always had next year's housing pinned near the beginning of winter quarter, at the latest. I had no idea that was different at other colleges.
Jazz388 Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 The fellowship dates that I had been told by my department were wrong, as I received my email concerning the fellowships yesterday. However, according to the graduate school today was supposed to be the day they notify via email.
mls188 Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I'm also starting at OSU for occupational therapy in June
POG0628 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Congratulations! Great to hear from another future Buckeye!
