Tinoply Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 So, I've been lurking for a long time now, and I haven't seen anything UCLA-related, which begs the question: has anybody heard anything? The silence is driving me crazy!
wintergirl Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) I'm also waiting to hear from UCLA. Top choice! Although this week seems to be off to a terrible start for my California schools, so maybe I'm okay waiting for UCLA... Are you applying for English PhD or a MFA? Edited February 8, 2012 by bespeckled
Tinoply Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 PhD, actually. A couple years ago, I was applying to MFA programs, but since then I've switched over to literature. UCLA is my top choice, too. What's your field of interest, if you don't mind me asking?
0000000000AAA Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 There was a post a while back about the UCLA committee meeting Feb 6. I don't know if that was a final or preliminary meeting. I'm also pretty excited about UCLA.....
wintergirl Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 UCLA is my top choice, too. What's your field of interest, if you don't mind me asking? Mainly American lit, 19th & 20th cent -- especially California and Western lit. You? There was a post a while back about the UCLA committee meeting Feb 6. I don't know if that was a final or preliminary meeting. I'm also pretty excited about UCLA..... Hahaha, that was me. I totally forgot I'd learned that when I called the dept about something else. : ) 0000000000AAA 1
Tinoply Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Mainly American lit, 19th & 20th cent -- especially California and Western lit. You? 18th & 19th century British lit, with a particular interest in Romanticism and William Blake. I'm trying so hard not to obsess about hearing from UCLA, but it seems like we're closing in on the time frame when they usually notify. Everyone in my department keeps reminding me that it's too early to panic yet . . . not that it's stopping me.
Pynchonette Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hi guys, I applied to UCLA too, haven't heard anything. It my only remaining choice outside of the East coast.. Whats this about a Feb. 6th meeting?
takethiswaltz Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I know from a reliable source that they're coming out with acceptances very, very soon.
Origin=Goal Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Comp. lit decisions are out fwiw. I'm waitlisted, but will probably go elsewhere whatever happens
Tinoply Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 I know from a reliable source that they're coming out with acceptances very, very soon. Ack!
Timshel Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Looks like there are a few acceptances on the board.
claptrap Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I posted one of the acceptances! (I've been lurking on this site for ages, but never bothered to sign up for an account or post.) I was awarded a University Fellowship that "covers all registration fees and tuition, as well as a living stipend of $20,000.00 during the 2012-13 academic year and a $3,000.00 stipend in summer 2013." For those interested, the e-mail states that there were 250+ applications. Best of luck to the rest of you!
Timshel Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I didn't apply, but I noticed the acceptances. Congrats, Overthemoon!

Good luck to everyone!
Pynchonette Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Wow, congratulations you guys! Wolferine, Overthemoon - what are your fields?
wintergirl Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) Congrats to those of you who got in. Did your letters say anything about the cohort size? And was it an email to check the website or an email from DGS/POI? Edited February 9, 2012 by bespeckled
0000000000AAA Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I just posted my acceptance. A strange morning, but a good one.
bigrelief Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I posted my acceptance last night! Letter didn't mention number of admits, just said there were very few. And it was an email directly from the department. They said we'll get an email from the Grad Division with a link to the official letter and more details on funding and residency. I'm a Modernist looking to expand to nineteenth-century.

Thanks for sharing the details, bigrelief, and congrats on your acceptance. : ) Seeing 10 acceptances just on the results board here makes me believe that they're done accepting. Ah, well. Reality is that, although it was my dream school, there are other schools that are a better fit for my specific interests. Hopefully I'll be over that (10 year) dream by the time I have several strong drinks tonight wake up tomorrow!
woolferine Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Wow, congratulations you guys! Wolferine, Overthemoon - what are your fields? Thank you so much! My interests are in queer studies, critical race studies, and contemporary lit. Best of luck, I am pulling for everyone on these boards!
