Silent_G Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Whoever posted that they received an email from the English program at Tufts that they are finalizing decisions, please tell me that you had emailed them first to inquire. I'm just neurotic enough about this whole process that I am now freaking out at the thought that they sent out a mass email and I somehow missed it or was not included because I will not be accepted.
Silent_G Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Okay, well that's good to know, thank you.
Silent_G Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 "Hooray, no spam here!" although it's not such good news for me in this case. I received emails from them when submitting my application, so I don't know why I wouldn't have received this one. I will continue brooding.
TripWillis Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I applied but did not receive this e-mail... I'm not sure we can interpret much about people receiving/not receiving having anything to do with admission/rejection. Historically, they notify acceptances by phone. There are these posts of rejection where people got the e-mail about finalization in the last couple years... as someone who did not get the e-mail, I'm sure I am applying some highly subjective reading methodology here.
seafoam Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I honestly don't even think decisions will be that "soon," they've typically notified mid-late march and their submission due date was January 15th...
Silent_G Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Wonderful points! I will try to be optimistic. This is the first post I've seen on the results board for any of the schools I've applied to, so I'm exceptionally anxious about it and of course overanalyzing everything.
TripWillis Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 So who of us will be the first to e-mail the department and ask them for the meaning of getting/not getting the email?
jma310 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 My close reading skills will be the death of me. The email explicitly says that no admissions decisions will be given by phone AND that those admitted will also receive a packet via mail. And then there's also the question of what they mean by "shortly"...

And then there's also the question of what they mean by "shortly"... Exactly! What does "shortly" mean?! That could be a day or it could be a week. Why do they torture us like this? And I don't even have the advantage of being able to read from the original email, but have to pore over every word posted by those who have received it. This whole experience will be the death of me.

I saw the e-mail from them this morning and got super excited to see the subject line, "Graduate Application," but just finding out they'll be deciding soon? Sent my anxiety levels through the roof!
TripWillis Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I would be surprised if they do not call with acceptances, as that is historically what has happened. Then again, maybe this is something new. At any rate, I'm weirdly obsessed with my not getting the email... I will take it as a sign that I'm in with a gazillion dollar fellowship and no teaching responsibilities. How's that for brilliant exegesis of an email I haven't read?

I will follow suit and try to cheer myself up. I even logged into their site and updated my contact information to be sure they had my email address, despite the fact that I have the site and log in info because I received their email when my application was completed. Yes, I am aware of my own logical inconsistencies and continue with them regardless.
bythesea Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 umm... I'm not in English, but read this topic because it said "Tufts" (yeah, I have it bad...) The following is from the 'Notifications' thread in the psych forum & it sounds like a similar general email from graduate admissions. One note, though: those who added their email addresses in the online app management didn't get the general email retroactively. But it might help for future mass emails. hope it helps you all too.... Posted Yesterday, 03:35 AM Just a tiny reminder for those who are applying for Tufts Psychology - check your contact details on your online application manage system. I just discovered today that my email address part was left blank for some reason - I didnt think to check it before because I think the graduate school would automatically have my record. Only after I manually add my email on the system, I received the notification email from the grad school that che psyra psyra previously mentioned. Hope this helps.

Yes, I noticed that my email address had been left blank too. Is anyone else somewhat disappointed in the online application systems? I ran into so many technical difficulties with applying, which really wasn't too awful except that it started affecting my LOR writers and becoming a nuisance for them. You would think one's email address would autopopulate just like the rest of the info, no?
bythesea Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I meant, some of those who added their email address later didn't get the original mass email... perhaps they added too late?
seafoam Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 If I'm thinking of the correct online application, Tufts was the worst. It kept erasing all of my information every time i moved on to a new section.
Silent_G Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 I meant, some of those who added their email address later didn't get the original mass email... perhaps they added too late? Right. That's what I did, just added mine today, not realizing it had been blank. I wish they WOULD retroactively send that email though...
Silent_G Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 If I'm thinking of the correct online application, Tufts was the worst. It kept erasing all of my information every time i moved on to a new section. I had that problem with the Brown application. They kept resetting all my employment dates to the default "today's date" setting, which was very unsettling because of course every time I logged in it looked as though every job I've ever held both began and ended this year.
caitlee91 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 (edited) Right. That's what I did, just added mine today, not realizing it had been blank. I wish they WOULD retroactively send that email though... I just added my e-mail to make sure it's there; my e-mail wasn't in there until now, but I did receive the Tufts e-mail this morning, so I'm not sure that it makes a difference. Who knows? I think this qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment though for all of us confused applicants! Edited February 8, 2012 by caitlee91
jma310 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 This is driving me nuts. And speaking of Brown, I suddenly cannot access my applicant portal on Embark...
seafoam Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 This is driving me nuts. And speaking of Brown, I suddenly cannot access my applicant portal on Embark... oh god don't even get me started thinking about Brown.
seafoam Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 As per the email thing, I'm not sure what you're all talking about because my email spot is blank and I got that update last night? **and now I'm freaking out because it says they only have one of my transcripts and I attended two universities, but I can't remember if this was the school that made me scan all of my files into one PDF....
jma310 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 @seafoam- same. my email spot was blank and i got the email this morning around 9:30AM.
