roxyshoe Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Hi everyone, So I applied to Masters of Social Work programs which have nothing to do with creative writing, really. But I still noted on my application (my resume, mainly) that I have currently been completing a Senior Honors Thesis for my Creative Writing major. Today I technically "dropped" it...however in such a way that none of the classes I take on my transcript change, just that I will not be receiving honors. (It's complicated). I am also going to continue working on it with my professor, but again just not as an Honors project. How important is it to let adcoms know about this? Should I do it for both schools I am waiting to hear back from and schools I have been admitted to that I am considering? If so, how exactly do I go about letting them know? Should I tell them basically what I wrote here in an e-mail to the director of admissions, or someone else? And do you think this will reflect really poorly? lots of questions...Thanks in advance!
ladybug3 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I don't know about the schools you are applying to, but the schools I am require a four year honours degree. I am not sure if Honours is different in the USA than it is in Canada, but I know here most Masters programs will not accept a General BA. I would look into this at each of the schools you applied to. I also know of some schools here that require the completion of a thesis for admissions. If you no longer meet acceptance criteria, I would assume you would have to tell those schools. If you still meet acceptance criteria, I imagine the change won't make a big difference. (I also applied to MSW programs, however in Canada).
rising_star Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 No one cares. Don't even update them on it. It's not like writing a creative writing thesis is a prerequisite for a MSW anyway.
BreathingSister Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yeah, I'm in a similar situation in that what is reflected as my major with probably change but I've literally not changed anything about classes I've taken, interests, or GPA. I am not going to tell anyone until I'm admitted (if so), and then if it's a problem I'll deal with it. I wouldn't tell them anything in your situation.
