PhD acceptance was just posted. 'Fess up! Who are you, you lucky person? I applied to the Joint MA / WGS so I'm hoping that that program is on a different schedule...

I got into the MA there back in 09 but it wasnt fully funded. When I got my call the POI told me how good of a fit I was. I've now applied to the PhD, and it's one of my top choices. Eek. Good luck, cquin.

I also applied to Brandeis's MA, cquin, and I'm almost certain they're on a different schedule. I hope you get in! Whoever got into PhD is a lucky (and obviously capable) dog. Congratulations. Claim it and bask in bravos!

Good luck, you guys! Of course, I immediately called the English department and asked if they were releasing notifications for the MA and Joint MA programs; I was told they'll start notifying the last week of February. So we still have an excruciating two weeks to go!

Jma, no, sorry! I only asked about the two MA programs. She did mention that all of next week the school will be closed (no idea why...) so I'm assuming notifications will go out this week and the week after next.

Great, now I have another school to start worrying about. I applied to the PhD program, but haven't received an email and the system has no news. My fiance is a PhD student in the MCB program there, and they're closed next week for "spring break," of which they have two.

SilentG, I don't believe the system will ever indicate a decision. I had a problem with getting an id/password since I had been in the syste from when I applied to the MA 2 yrs ago. When I contacted the grad school they confirmed all my materials were there and said they didn't know how to fix the problem but that it didn't matter since the system was only used to track materials.

Good to know. Their email also said they would only send admissions decisions via postal mail for privacy reasons, but clearly someone received an acceptance via email, so I'm taking that with a grain of salt.

I happen to know for a fact that the MA is on a different schedule! Feel free to PM me if you have Brandeis questions. (Allso, the school will be closed next week because Brandeis has a February break and a week off in April for Passover.)

Just got an acceptance call from a professor in the Brandeis English department.

She said this was the "unofficial" acceptance notification, that the department had forwarded my name to Graduate School to be approved officially. In the meantime, she also sent me an email with information on funding (which looks great!) and contacts.

Excited! This is the first American program I have heard back from.

Congrats! That's wonderful :)

Here's hoping you all get in! It's actually a great school, and the Jewish holidays are AMAZING! You get like 10 days off a semester and 2 spring breaks!

Congratulations!!! :)

Do you mind if I ask what your specialty is?

Hey all, I just recently got my BA from Brandeis (English major, WGS minor). I can't speak to any of the graduate programs but if anyone has any questions about faculty, resources for research, etc. (particularly for queer theory, theatre/performance, and 19th century) feel free to drop me a line.

Congratulations! Especially the funding bit. It's great to receive confirmation about funding so soon.

I have to ask for my own piece of mind: was this for PhD or MA?

@ cquin: this was for the Ph.D. program

@caitlee91: My speciality, is British modernism, particularly Woolf and object theory. I'm interested in researching how the growing scientific knowledge of atoms in the early twentieth century (particularly their hollow nature) may have influenced writers like Woolf, Lawrence, Forster, etc., in representing the permanence and transience of material reality, and affecting the fluidity of their prose.

I'm really excited about the offer, though I am so split between my choices. Money aside, I really have a desire to do my graduate studies in the UK. Unfortunately, unless I get a great scholarship offer, most UK schools won't come close to matching what American programs can offer. I hope time makes this decision easier to make!

That is incredibly fascinating research. I'm not as well-read in British modernism as I'd like to be, having essentially devoted 18 credits of my undergraduate English major to Early Modern England, but I am interested in how scientific discoveries play out in literature. For my undergrad thesis, I'm currently researching how magical philosophies interact with humanism in Tudor, Elizabethan, and Jacobean drama, and science and magic are so closely tied at this point, and just starting to break apart. I can see how scientific discovery, seemingly so separate from the humanities (or at least I always like to think so when my brother is doing bio homework and I'm reading Macbeth), has a major role.

Congrats again!

Three acceptances posted now. Congrats to everyone who got in! I'm feeling more anxious with every minute now.

First notification I get and it's an acceptance! :) Notified yesterday, so it looks like they're not notifying everyone at the same time (although I'm in California so maybe time zones have something to do with it). They called me while I was teaching, and I had forgotten to turn off my phone, and now (according to my syllabus) I owe my class donuts ... but completely worth it.

Congrats to everyone else who got in!

Ha! That's wild -- did you answer during class, or do you owe them donuts just for having it ring? Great rule, btw. I doubt my students would follow such a rule, though!
