jma310 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I emailed the DGS, I'll let people know what she says!
athousandlemmings Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Ha! That's wild -- did you answer during class, or do you owe them donuts just for having it ring? Great rule, btw. I doubt my students would follow such a rule, though! No, really should have though. I saw that it was a MA area code and for some reason it didn't even occur to me that it was related to this. Best voicemail ever. First time it's ever been me bringing donuts to class. Never had a problem with making students bring them, probably because I make vague, half-joking grade-related threats
Silent_G Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 After seeing that post about a waitlist call I've pretty much given up all hope of getting into this one
caitlee91 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I emailed the DGS, I'll let people know what she says! Thanks! I look forward to hearing what's up.
jma310 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hi guys, the DGS said I wasn't offered admission, and from what I gather, notifications have gone out to accepted/waitlisted. Rejections will be by mail. Gah. 3 rejects and a waitlist for me. 7 to go!
caitlee91 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hi guys, the DGS said I wasn't offered admission, and from what I gather, notifications have gone out to accepted/waitlisted. Rejections will be by mail. Gah. 3 rejects and a waitlist for me. 7 to go! I'm sorry to hear that! I e-mailed as well, but she told me that straight acceptances/rejections go out over the next two weeks, but waitlists may be a little longer. So I'm holding onto a little hope for Brandeis (which I need since I got rejections both Monday and Tuesday).
jma310 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Caitlee, where have you heard from thus far? PM me to commiserate haha
jma310 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 btw caitlee that's interesting because i asked when i'd be hearing and she flat out told me her decision. but she also said she had checked with the admission committee which she was not a part of. so maybe she didn't check for you, or maybe there is still hope!!
caitlee91 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) Caitlee, where have you heard from thus far? PM me to commiserate haha PM sent! Forgive me if I don't answer quickly; for whatever reason, I'm getting an error message now when I try to view my profile saying that I don't have permission to do so I e-mailed support, so hopefully the problem will be fixed soon. At least it hasn't kicked me off the forums or the results search! ETA: It resolved itself! Edited February 16, 2012 by caitlee91
cquin Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Congrats to all the admits! Now I await anxiously for the MA notifications to go out...
Silent_G Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Well, it's official. They just sent me a rejection email. They hinted that it was because my research interests wouldn't be a good fit, which I was already aware of, but it still hurts. I know I'd be a better fit at all of the other schools I've applied to, so I'm hoping at least one of them sees it that way too.
jamie_w Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I'm so sorry, Silent_G and jma! I also just got the rejection e-mail--my third rejection this week--I'm ready for the long weekend! Congrats to those who got in, and best of luck, everyone!
cquin Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Just got an email from Faith Smith... Accepted into the Joint MA/WGS program with 25% tuition merit scholarship and 25% need-based scholarship! Brandeis is one of my top choices and omg I'm ridiculously excited!!

cquin Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Me, too! Yay! Congrats! I had a crap week with two rejections in a row so I really needed this!
JeremiahParadise Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Congrats! I had a crap week with two rejections in a row so I really needed this! Good for you two -- glad to see some more acceptances! I look forward to applying this fall. Big time!
laurathebadseed Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 me, too cquin!! so exciting!! is this your first acceptance as well?
cquin Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks everyone! @laura: This is my second acceptance, but I wasn't *in love* with the first school, so this Brandeis acceptance is amazing news for me.
Lucke1984 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 This is my first time posting and I truly can't express how much reading everything on these forums has helped me to know what questions to ask, who to ask them of, and when to get hopeful, scared, and ultimately dejected. For anyone who, like me, didn't recieve an admission, waitlist position, or "rejection"( I really want to call that something else because its starting to cut a little deeper than I'd like), I emailed the DGS regarding my application and recieved the following : "Thanks for your inquiry. The admissions committee (of which I am not a member) has made some initial decisions. I'm sorry to report that your application was not among those chosen for a first-round offer, nor are you on the official waitlist at this time." I'm not sure if this is an extremely kind rejection or if it contains a slight glimmer or hope... I know I should choose the former but can't help the impulse to wish for the best(as completely absurd and unlikely as it is).

I haven't been officially rejected or waitlisted, so I'm still somewhere in the middle. I'm okay with this only because it at least shows that they have seriously considered my application; it's better than the two rejections I got this week. When I had emailed the DGS she said that people on or just below the waitlist may have to wait a bit for an official answer. So best of luck to you!

If they would only perfect a magic memory eraser a la Eternal Sunshine on a Spotless Mind I could maybe go about living my life in a semi sane manner for the next month+. As it stands this "in the middle position" that Brandeis seems to have us in is the only thing keeping me from seriously questioning what I thought I was doing with this whole appliation thing. Almost all of my mental focus this week has surrounded constructing various, and impossible to verify, senarios regarding the meager information or lack there of that I've recieved ( and of course wallowing in rejections and making my friends as miserable as I am). Best of luck to you too!
filibustamove Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 First off, congratulations to everyone who has been accepted, best wishes for success in other programs to those who were not, and fingers crossed for those who are still waiting! I myself have applied to the terminal English MA program, and was wondering if anyone has heard anything from or about that particular track? Tired of compulsively checking my email inbox every 5 minutes...
rachelelin Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I emailed the DGS AND I received the exact same message as the person who posted on Feb 17th above... really don't know whether no news at this point means there is still hope. My suspicion is that Brandeis is going to keep us in limbo for a while longer yet. I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up.
