So UOregon is my last hold‒out for PhD and the anxiety is encroaching. Of the three that I applied to, it's easily my top choice. I would even be happy if they considered/accepted me for their MA. My partner also applied to their philosophy PhD, and it's as much of a dream program for him. He already has an MA, so if he doesn't get into the PhD, it's going to be a crusher. A lot is riding on this particular school for us geographically, emotionally, and situationally.

I saw on the survey that someone was accepted by phone for philosophy, so I'm pretty sure it's begun for them. I also know that last year the English department began rolling out answers the last week in February.

Is anyone else waiting? Does anyone else have any news or timelines?

Hi, Julianne! I am also anxiously waiting for UO--I've checked the website a bunch, but no news just yet. Best of luck to you! (I'm also originally from RI--yay for the tiny state!)

Ha! That means we probably know each other by one step of separation. If you're comfortable, what town are you originally from?

Best of luck to you, too!

I grew up in Narragansett then SK, but have been living in Providence for the better part of 5 years. I'm more than ready to skeedaddle.

Here's what I got:

Hi, Rachael—

Probably late March to mid-April; MA applications are evaluated after all the PhD admissions decisions have been made, and we’re about 1/3 into that process now.

Best,

Michael

Yeesh.

What the hell is taking them so long for the PhD applications? It's been two months x_x.

I'm waiting on U of O, as well... it's frustrating because some universities seem really ready to have their people set, and others, like this one, haven't said anything at ALL. I guess nothing is better than a no?

I actually would prefer a "no," to be honest. I know I have longer to wait as an MA applicant than the majority of you PhD-ers, but I'm still getting antsy just wanting to know definitively from all of my schools. My lease is up at the end of May, so that's when I'm moving... to wherever I may end up moving. A month is not a lot of planning time.

Thanks for asking about this. I wonder when this means we'll hear about PhD results. Maybe they'll get delivered by the Easter Bunny? ; )

Last year I heard toward the end of February, if I recall correctly. I emailed Mike Stamm a couple times and he actually told me unofficially I was accepted before the unofficial-official email announcements followed by the official-official letters later. He's really nice and had a good sense of the timeframe. If you're going crazy, maybe you can contact him.

Thanks for the info., lyoness and Rachael! If all of the Rhode Islanders end up going, let's meet up in Eugene for some coffee milk and reminisce about the giant blue bug.

The e-mail that I posted above was from him. I didn't ask about PhD, but he said MA decisions probably won't go out until the end of March.

University of Oregon (along with UMinnesota) is my top choice. I applied for the PhD to study with Forest Pyle. He's doing awesome work on Romanticism and contemporary culture, and his scholarship on Shelley is wonderful. I'm really antsy to hear back from UO. I may e-mail Mr. Stamm as well.

I read this over the weekend and went "hey, I think that's who I wanted to work with, too!" In a frenzy of panic, I pulled up my SOP to see if I mentioned him. That's when I noticed that I put the wrong university name in there (UO is not UConn, damnit) . . . FML.

Oh no! Bummer! I put the whole university name in my SOP as to avoid confusion. I'm really antsy to hear back from UOregon. Good luck!!!

Thanks -- I think I'm going to need it. I'm usually very careful about those things, but somehow it slipped past me. Best of luck to you, as well!
