ferhin Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I have been offered a paid visit to the campus of the schools I applied to. The POI told me that they will make final decisions after this visit. I am unsure how to read this-any suggestions?
DorindaAfterThyrsis Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 From what I gather on these boards, paid visits before you've received and official admissions offer (with or without a funding package) are essentially extended interview-type situations, with greater or lesser degrees of formality depending on the program. YMMV, but I think it's safe to assume that you're among the final pool of applicants, and you will be evaluated along with your fellow short-listers during the visit. Wouldn't hurt to e-mail the department and inquire about whether a formal interview process will be part of the scheduled activities. Good luck! Congrats on the good news.
Ameonna Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 At the very least, it means you're on the short list. Congrats!! It seems to vary by program in terms of what percentage of applicants who make it to the interview stage are ultimately accepted.
ferhin Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Thanks! I'll keep my fingers crossed and pray there will be a day when I can let go of the anxiety (I doubt this lol)
ktel Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 When I received a paid visit, I was basically accepted, but I know many schools that do not operate that way. Just be glad you're good enough to get this far!
