mrhr0bin Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 What's the deal with this recruiting weekend/ visitation day? Who are generally invited to recruiting weekends? Is it applicable to only US applicants? Do internationals (US resident) also get invited? Is there any ground rule about it? I have seen some universities even sent out invitation to overseas applicants who are not going to make it to the visit. And What does this "not getting invited" thing imply for admissions and funding?
cynder Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 As an international US resident I got invited for 2 of these. They offered a maximum travel reimbursement in both cases that would make it very hard to come if I really had to come from another country. Based on that it seems that they do invite international students to these visitation weekends. Some schools will accept without a visit being required, they should notify you about that. If you get invited to visit and cant attend I think it may lower your chances to finally get admitted.
mrhr0bin Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 What if the school is having a recruiting weekend and I am not invited? What does it imply for my chances of admission or funding?
cynder Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Nothing definitive yet, its possible that you have been wait-listed or that there will be multiple recruiting weekends. Until you get an official rejection you shouldnt rule the school out. You could consider to ask for an update if you are waiting for a long time.
mrhr0bin Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 The thing is that one of the professors from that university has been very positive to me from the beginning. He even said that admission is not going to be a concern for me and he is going to support my application for fellowship. But all of a sudden today I found out from the department website that they are hosting a recruiting weekend tomorrow and they have sent out all the invitations a couple of weeks ago. I didn't think about checking the department website on a regular basis. That's why I couldn't find it out earlier. I sent that professor an email regarding this today. But haven't got any reply yet. In the meantime I can't stop myself busting my brains out thinking about all the negative stuffs that could have happen to my chances.
