Jbarks Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I saw a UNCG rejection go up. No acceptances yet. I wonder if this means they'll start notifying soon. Eek! I can't take two rejections in one day!
crystalleem Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I wonder what's up with the one rejection? I applied there and haven't heard a thing!
fedupofthewait Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 The one rejection was me. I got an email this morning from the DGS directing me to the website where the decision letter was waiting for me. If you guys have not heard anything, it might be good news, as Greensboro generally sends acceptances by postal mail. Good luck to both of you!
Jbarks Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Thanks, fedup. Sorry to hear that. Good luck with your other nine. Even if it is good news from UNCG, however, their funding situation is pretty crappy. Crystal-- It looks like we're applying to several of the same programs. What is your area of interest? I'm a medievalist-- 14th-15th centuries.
kikalique87 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I did my undergrad at UNCG and still have strong ties to the school. If anyone has any questions about the program or surrounding area, I'd be more than happy to answer them! In a nut shell, I loved UNCG and Greensboro.
Jbarks Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I just received an email from Michelle Dowd. I've been accepted to UNCG!! I've been feeling really blah, so this helps a lot. No word on funding yet. But I was recommended to the Dean of GSAS for a TAship and also nominated for their Excellence Fellowship. I can breathe a little easier now. Good luck everyone!
poeteer Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I was hoping that was you! (I remembered seeing UNCG in your signature). Congrats!
fedupofthewait Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Congratulation Jbarks...I was hoping you get in.
Jbarks Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Thanks! I almost did my MA there and some days I regret not doing so, even though I'm happy I entered the program I did. Hopefully, the funding situation works out. Good luck to you guys!
desaparecido Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I got the same email as Jbarks (congrats, by the way!) regarding recommendation for TA position and nomination for the Excellence Fellowship.
crystalleem Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Those of you who have gotten accepted, what are your focuses? I still haven't received anything from UNCG.
desaparecido Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Crystalleem: My focus is postbellum Southern lit, modernism, and cognitive/narrative studies.
crystalleem Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Doubleshot: I'm a Victorian with a particular interest in the way woman are represented in fin de siecle novels
desaparecido Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Ah, well perhaps they're going by field. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Jbarks Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Congrats, Readwritenap! Hopefully some sort of funding will come through for us. Crystalleem-- I'm late medieval with an interest in temporality, medievalisms, and plague accounts
crystalleem Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Anyone know if people with waitlisted funding from Greensboro have ever ended up getting funding? I want to get my PhD, but I can't imagine doing it with no funding and paying out-of-state tuition. I've been lucky enough to be almost finished with my master's and I have no student loans. I'm not really sure I want to start racking up debt now.
desaparecido Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Crystalleem, I'm sending you a DM in a minute regarding that.
