Bionerd2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Can anyone tell me when admits to Marine Science/Biology start coming in?
dcarroll Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Throughout all of Feb and early March Do you have any specific schools you were wondering about? You can always email the graduate admission office and ask.
Bionerd2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I have nt heard back from a single school yet!
TropicalCharlie Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Bionerd - Don't fret. I'm sure you will hear something soon. Think positive. Good luck!
Bionerd2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Thanks TropicalCharlie! I hope that happens. I am totally freaking out!
TXTiger2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I've gotten responses from TAMU and USF, and know that several programs have already hosted or sent out invitations to interview weekends. The only program I haven't heard from is VIMS, but the application was due in mid-January so its still early for them. Where did you apply?
Bionerd2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I have applied to UMD, Stonybrook, RSMAS,USF and Rutgers. Have you heard from USF for PhD or Masters because I saw few acceptances for Masters on the results page. I am International student does that have anything to do with not having heard from anyone yet?
Bionerd2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 @ dcarroll and TXT Where have you people applied?
dcarroll Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 So far rejected from Stanford and MIT/WHOI, accepted to UO, waiting on OSU, URI, and UW.
Bionerd2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Congrats! Good luck for the rest!
TXTiger2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 @Bionerd I applied to the Master's program, but there were plenty of PhD applicants at the recruitment weekend I was at too. I only applied to USF, TAMU, and VIMS. I can't speak for any other programs, but definitely e-mail the grad secretary, Dawna, at USF if you have questions about your application. She is incredibly nice, helpful, and usually quick to reply!
Bionerd2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 Oh that sounds like a rejection from USF. Thanks though! Good luck!
ifrancium Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 good to see marine sci/bios...! rejected: whoi/uw interviewed: unc (feb 10), scripps (feb 17) interviews: usc (march 7), rutgers (march 2) waiting on URI, oregon state, UF gl
Bionerd2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) Do you know if Rutgers is done sending all interview invites? Edited February 25, 2012 by Bionerd2012
dcarroll Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hi, Also, here is what I have learned from emailing the schools. OSU (COAS): They are making decisions now, still can't get an answer on when they will be sent out. URI (GSO): Rolling admissions, no word on when they will be sent out. UW (Oceanography): They are trying to make all decisions by March 5th. Cheers
TXTiger2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 You aren't necessarily rejected from USF. I don't think all the professors who wanted to meet applicants got to invite them, for budgeting or other reasons. Official decisions should be sent out in the next week-ish, but if you're feeling impatient (which I don't blame you for haha), go ahead and e-mail them!
Bionerd2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Oh well none of the profs have emailed me showing interest so I assume that it will be a rejection.
sansao Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Oh well none of the profs have emailed me showing interest so I assume that it will be a rejection. I wouldn't assume that until it is.
TXTiger2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I don't know how it would work with professors getting in touch with an applicant. I had established some kind of e-mail correspondence with POIs at all my schools before I applied, even if it was just to establish that they were open to taking on new students. So they already knew I was interested and vice versa. But like sansao said, don't automatically assume you're rejected! Especially since you're an international applicant, that process may be handled completely different from domestic students.
Bionerd2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Well I guess time alone will tell. Really bummed and discouraged after getting the first reject.
sansao Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I don't know how it would work with professors getting in touch with an applicant. I had established some kind of e-mail correspondence with POIs at all my schools before I applied, even if it was just to establish that they were open to taking on new students. So they already knew I was interested and vice versa. I did the same thing, at least 3 faculty members per school, sometimes more. The one school where I wasn't very successful with faculty correspondence was also the school that already rejected my application. Well I guess time alone will tell. Really bummed and discouraged after getting the first reject. One rejection's not so bad. Just keep focused on the other schools now.
Bionerd2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Ya even I had done the same, but few of them actually replied back. This time period is the worst ever!!
