EomNutr Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Hey Everyone, So I had an informal interview with my potential supervisor yesterday and she said she'd definitiely be willing to take me on for September (yay!). However, at the moment she doesn't have any funding to pay my stipend with, and so right now it's a conditional offer. I was wondering if this is commonplace during the whole grad application. At the University I applied to you must secure a supervisor before applying to the Department and I have managed to do that. I'm just wondering the likelihood that she will secure money for my stipend? She has applied for 6 government grants and will hear back in April-May. **Nervous**
electrochoc Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Depending on the university and department, funding comes from a variety of sources, not only your supervisor. Have they made a formal offer of admission (and of funding)? I would contact the graduate office for further information on this, might help you breathe easier.
ktel Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Are you by any chance talking about the University of Toronto? I believe in some programs funding is mandatory, meaning you don't get accepted unless there is funding available for you. Hence why she may be calling your offer conditional for now. That's why they require you find a supervisor, because they require you to have funding.
