prairiedances Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 This is my second year going through the grad school application process. This time I only applied to one master's library science program and a PhD history program at Washington University in St. Louis. I got in to the library science program but my dream for a while has been to get my doctorate in history. I got an e-mail from the school yesterday telling me that a decision has been made. I'm afraid to look. Based on the results search, the only people who got a response from the PhD program there yesterday were rejected. It was a long shot since even though I have a publication and a MA already in history I have lower GPA/GRE scores. So most likely I was rejected as well. I'm afraid to look because I'll have to give up a dream I had because I don't want to do the whole application thing for a third time. Does this make any sense?
guttata Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Just look. Waiting isn't going to change the decision at all, it's already been made. abc123xtc and Ampere 2

Guest oldname12 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 The sooner you look, the sooner you can start considering your other options as well.
abc123xtc Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I'm honestly surprised you could hold out this long, even if you were expecting a rejection. I'd personally want to know as soon as I could, so I could start making alternate arrangements... or be shocked to be accepted! Let us know the results.
prairiedances Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks for the encouragement I was suprised at my response, last time I couldn't wait to check. Alas, I was right. I was rejected.
marxram Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 That really sucks, especially after that tense wait!!! Perhaps this year the competition was particularly high again, are you planning to try next year as well?
prairiedances Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) Thanks! I orginally said no to applying again, but after a few days of thinking about it, I still really want to further my study of history. I think I might go for the library science degree, hopefully get a good GPA there, retake the GREs, and try again in a few years. Edited March 1, 2012 by prairiedances
