LabRat2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 So this website is the death of me. I look up schools and find out the ones I haven't heard from have already made decisions, and so I'm rejected, right? No. My advisor told me that it means I'm on the "long list" (of about 20 people), and therefore on a waitlist. I shouldn't complain, because I look ike an A-hole since I've already gotten 3 other offers. But my top school has already had interview weekend AND accepted people, and I am holding on to two offers waiting to hear from other schools. And it seems like a hot mess considering the people that were accepted to my top school are holding THAT offer waiting to hear from maybe a school that I am holding an offer from. Anyone else?
We regret to inform you Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I've got 1 offer which is comforting, but yeah, i'm on pins and needles. I want this process to be over.
Semester Photon Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I'm not really in the same situation. My third choice go back to me right away with acceptance, and my first choice sent out my rejection in the first round. The other three schools that I'm applying to haven't gotten back to me yet, and from the looks of the results page they haven't gotten back to anyone yet. (Although from the results history, I'm hoping that my second choice sends me a decision by the beginning of next week.) I'm just happy to be accepted. I committed to going to graduate school at the eleventh hour, convinced that I had no shot of getting in anywhere. I didn't have time to contact any POI's, and I picked programs that had later deadlines just so I had a chance to get everything to them on time. Not a good way to go about things, and I really don't recommend it. (I wish I had discovered this website a year ago!) The only reason this worked for me at all is that my area is fairly common, so there were a lot of programs that were a potential fit. Even though I know I shouldn't be hearing back from my other programs just yet, the waiting is tough, especially because I don't know about funding at the place I got accepted (yet). Since the places I applied have later deadlines, that also means in general that they have later dates to send out their acceptances/rejections. I've already heard from so many people that have gotten in places; it's tough not to be jealous sometimes. :/ You don't seem like an A-hole to me. Everyone wants to get into their top choice. I know this is hard to hear, but try to be happy that you are still in the running at your top choice. The waiting can be frustrating no matter what the situation. I hope your top choice gets back to you soon.
marXian Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I feel like I'm in a similar situation. I have an offer with full funding and a very large stipend for 5 years, but I still want to wait to hear back from a few other schools that could be better for me all around (though I don't know if the funding/stipend offer could be better.) I'm also checking this site obsessively. I've seen only one acceptance from each of the two schools I'm most anxious to hear back from. Then a couple waitlists for those same schools, but everything is really spread out date-wise. A friend of mine got an email notification he'd been waitlisted at one of those too. It really is maddening. I'm hoping that a week or two from now it's all over. I'd almost rather be rejected from the rest of the schools than still be waiting to hear back in two weeks.
MarketingPhD2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I wish I had at least one offer because I wouldn't be so uptight right now! I would have comfort in knowing that I will at least be beginning my long-term dream this fall. Right now, everything is still up in the clouds for me. I am losing my mind just thinking what my path will be in the event I do not get accepted anywhere. It's in God's hands now!

I'd almost rather be rejected from the rest of the schools than still be waiting to hear back in two weeks. I totally know what you mean about this! If I got rejected from the rest of my schools today, I'd be fine with it. At least I'd know where I stood on making my decision between the offers I have gotten. And then I can free up some options for someone else waiting!
espresso_eyes Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 For some reason, I thought I was gonna hear from a bunch of schools this week....wishful thinking! And its Friday..... cokohlik 1

cokohlik Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 For some reason, I thought I was gonna hear from a bunch of schools this week....wishful thinking! And its Friday..... My thoughts exactly. I forgot it was Friday though. Rats.
LabRat2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 I was for sure I'd hear something today, too. And next week is Spring Break, so that's not gonna happen either. Good news is that my advisor e-mailed his grad advisor, who is my POI at one of my top schools, to ask about it, and it said to tell me to "sit tight". My advisor said he thinks it's looking good. Hey, it's better than nothing!
