elixir Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Failure. Sorry to hear that. Wish I could be back in Toronto and offer to buy you a pitcher of something. I don't really feel like doing bench work today anymore....
Dal PhDer Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I hear the sound of a wine cork popping...(and low muffled sobbing)... *sigh* Best wishes for those who still haven't checked. Extra booze for those that didn't get the response they wanted. And happy cheers for those that did!
3minutes Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I'm trying to log on but it seems extremely clogged. Did everyone receive an e-mail indicating results were up?
Dal PhDer Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 So, there are a few positives in all this: 1) At least my application wasn't disqualified for a stupid mistake; 2) I am now not being held to any high expectations; and 3) I have an excuse to be drunk for the next 24 hours!
MissionRNAi Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Sorry to hear that. Wish I could be back in Toronto and offer to buy you a pitcher of something. I don't really feel like doing bench work today anymore.... Yeah... I cannot believe it. I asked a guy in my department who has no publications and said he got a score of 4 out of 4.9. I busted my ass off for a first authored publication (it's developmental biology, so getting one is like hitting gold) and I got 4.2
3minutes Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I just got an e-mail. Still can't access the site
KathrynMorrison Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I still can't get the page to load. This is hell!!!!
elixir Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Yeah I noticed it's down. A whole load of grants posted so I think all the people checking in at once is messing it up. I mean there were only 1600 DRA applicants, and I don't know how many others but it shouldn't be enough to jam the server. I happened to refresh the researchnet and see my result before the email went out and everyone started checking.

I don't know how I could get a 4.6 from one reviewer and a 4.0 from another on the came category.
Dal PhDer Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Mike- hope the silence from you means you are too busy jumping up and down cheering for joy!
MissionRNAi Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Seems like nobody that I've talked to so far was successful either. Some had their apps completely trolled.
3minutes Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Dal - Where did you rank? It seems as if your scoring was high.
Dal PhDer Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I had one really good reviewer, and one really poor- which makes me question how they rank it. I got in the 90s...better than my score last year, so that's good!

3minutes Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Still not working! I had one really good reviewer, and one really poor- which makes me question how they rank it. I got in the 90s...better than my score last year, so that's good! That's great, congratulations! Will you be applying next year?
Dal PhDer Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 yup...high 90s...so...far enough out that I won't get any throwback $$'s..
Dal PhDer Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) Still not working! That's great, congratulations! Will you be applying next year? Thanks...I mean...probably for all of us it's the same thing- it's not that we had bad applications, it's just so stupidly hard to get funding. I will probably reapply (for a 3rd time). I am actually getting a co-supervisor (my current supervisor is new, I am his first PhD student- so that was also what brought my score down), and having a few articles in submission- so maybe that will help. Those were the two categories that really killed me. good luck kaipsychology! I am wishing you all the luck in the world!!! *fingers & toes crossed* Edited April 16, 2012 by Dal PhDer
KathrynMorrison Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I managed to get it, ranked 25th in group B. I feel bad that so many people here are obviously great scientists and were SO close to getting it. I really think that there is a lot of randomness in the funding process. Best of luck in all future applications!!!!

MMRgirl Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I managed to get it too. Ranked 45 in Group A. Sorry for those that didn't get it. So frustrating, and so much work.
