I've gotten my letter from the department saying that they've reccomended me for admissions. Still waiting for the official letter from the admissions office though.

Yep - A graduate assistantship that I'm very grateful for. It's a pretty sweet deal that also involves a tuition waiver so barring me getting a similar offer from any of the other schools I applied to, I'll be attending MSU. I just recieved the official letter form Graduate Admissions in the mail yesterday too. Mine is an M.S. program (in CARRS) so I'm not sure about how much assistanships are spread around. I'd bet that its tied to funding that your POI has for thier own work or research though.

is it strange I hav eNOTHING...? this sucks....granted I also have heard nothing from the U of Minnesota. Syrcause yet....but the difference is I don't expect either one of those to work out. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind being incorrect, I am just really banking on Michigan State....

Hmm... I've also received rejections from Minnesota and Syracuse!

Of course, we are applying to different programs. Who knows when your program meets to go over applications; I know at least one of the schools I'm waiting on doesn't even START looking at them until this weekend. Seriously!

Also, some schools do rolling admissions, meaning they accept people as funding becomes available. So if you haven't heard yet, but have seen acceptances on the results page, it doesn't mean you are for sure not in.

Yes, I applied to PhD programs. I've heard that schools usually do PhDs first, but I don't know how true that is.

I am a St Cloud State Univeristy grad will have a degree in French and a degree in linguistics with a minor in TESL. My overall GPA is a 3.3 but my linguistics major GPA is a 3.57 and my last 60 credits were a 3.93 (up until the end of my sophmore year, when I was finally diagnosed with ADHD, I wasn't excatly a steller student), Since then though when I have take all the hard upper class linguistics courses I have a 3.93. I also have done senior papers and presented them at various conferences for French, TESL and am currently working on my linguistics one. I don't know how Michigan will react to reading that, but more then anything I want them to give me a chance to prove myself acedemically (with funding I despertly need) because I honeslty belive I haven't had the chance yet. But not hearing news from them scares me. When did you apply? what was your undergraduate school and GPA?

I applied around the end january a few weeks before the Feb 1 deadline cause I just found out about the CJ MS online program. Didn't end up having much time to prepare a solid cover letter which might be my weak point because it was like a spur of a moment decision to apply, was able to get some references in time, two supervisors from an related internship and a professor at my school though not exactly sure how strong they are in the committees eyes. also didn't take the GRE because it was waived for me (had over a 3.2 gpa but I wouldn't have taken it anyway), I don't know if that might end up hurting me since a lot of others may have taken it. My undergrad was North Carolina State ('11) and had a 3.8 GPA (overall and Criminal justice major), I am expecting to hear from them by next week which they said notifications would be sent out by but I'm not so sure now. Maybe they already sent them out and I was rejected so I got no notification lol. although if I don't get in it's not a big deal, I've just been applying to some schools to keep my options open you know but not entirely serious about attending any schools yet.

Yeah your wayyyyy better off then me.....I had to take the GRE even with over a 3.2, do you think that just various from program to program?? they told me we are notified eitehr way.....so i'd assume you would be too....now are you expecting fudning??? like do you have a good teaching research background? Also I am kind of worried becuase one of my reference letters was really late....my program had a dec 15th deadline.....and I think they got that along with my GRE scores in Janurary......its my references fault I asked him to send it before he said he did.....Oh btw that dealine being so early may have been because im canadian and an international student.....

I am hoping that my program was not as competitive which is why they did not require GRE for above 3.2, maybe a lot of people do not have above 3.2's, not expecting funding becasue I applied late and the program is online anyway, I dont have research or teaching background and not much work experience either. if I don't get a response by end of next week I'll email them and ask them if I was rejected.

Yeah I do have experience so I am verrrry hopeful for fudning. Btw I got into Syracuse's MA with no TA, and was shocked. If I got in I was sure I would get a TA becuase I have a ton of experience for a student right out of undergraduate, I called to ask about RA's, and talked to my POI, who gave me some leads but also said that all the MA TA's had 3-5 years of teaching experience, and I had only student taught. AHhhhhh why does it have to be so compeitive?
