Talked to the DGS, who was ridiculously nice, and obtained some info for those interested:

150 applicants, 7 Masters acceptances

8 or 9 PhD acceptances

Acceptances and wait-lists are based on an overall pool, not by area of interest

So, if you're on the wait list, probably not worth fretting over your area and just hope you're high in the hierarchy.

I'm currently leaning toward a couple other possibilities but am going to explore the option of Florida more and may not know for sure until early April, but will be glad to post whatever decision I make here. Good luck to all those who are in or on the wait list, Florida is easily the friendliest school I've heard back from and they have a really attractive array of classes.

So, have they notified everyone, because I haven't heard from them at all.

That's really good to know. Did he give any indication of how big the wait list is? I wonder if it's rude to ask or to ask where my place on the list is.

He didn't say, the closest thing I can quote is that after they hear back from Accepteds, they "dig in to their wait list." It's an absolute hunch but from the sound of it, they might not have an officially notified wait list--and thus if you're applying for the MA you might be unofficially wait listed. But again, he didn't say explicitly.

He did not go into the wait list size, unfortunately. It honestly might've been a little strange for me to have asked that. As for your place on the list, I'm not sure, Dr. Dobrin was really kind but that might be confidential info.

I actually applied to the PhD program.....Oh well. I would have turned it down, anyway.

Here's what Dr. Wegner told me on Friday. "We are in fact in the middle of contacting all those who applied to our program, and the process will be completed sometime in the next week or so.

But, if you contact them, they may give you your status. That's how I found out I was on the wait list.

Someone on the results board said that they were told on the phone today that anyone who hasn't been contacted yet is basically on the wait list.

Hooray e.e At least this one's only a $30 application. A reasonable price for having one's dreams crushed -.-

I finally got my wait list email. Did anyone else's email say where on the wait list they were?

No mine was a standard form email. Was yours more specific?

Well, mine seemed like a form letter, but it stated that I was "near the very top," and I was curious if that was said in everyone's email. I'm assuming it was, but wanted to ask.

Mine doesn't say anything about place on the waitlist. It doesn't say I'm near the very top, so that's good for you! I wonder where that means I am and how many people are on this crazy wait list?

Hmmm, it sounded formulaic. It states, "While we are unable to offer you admissions at this time, you are near the very top of our waitlist."

When I had assumed that I was rejected, I had convinced myself that I wouldn't take UF's offer even if I got it. Now that I'm wait listed, and I have looked back over the program, I can't help but get my hopes up about the wait list. Ugh.

Timshel... UCR/UFL no competition. You've already won the lottery, why are you bothering with scratch-offs? But I guess I understand, I'm still waiting on LSU so I can get a 1/1 with 5000$ more. And my stock form-letter didn't sound half as nice as yours. It rang to the tone of, "Well, don't get your hopes up. It'll all be over soon." BAH LSU hurry!

I see your point, Timshel. I have two better offers, but when I got into UF, I considered it for a bit. It does sound like a really laid-back and enthusiastic program. But, I will be declining. You should, too, if they offer it to you. UCR will get you a job. (And now for more unsolicited advice with aeplo...;)

Has anyone accepted University of Florida's offer? Is anyone else worried about the stipend amount? Is anyone else planning to visit in the near future?

I mean, I am pretty sure I will still choose UCR. I have already been planning everything, and it's way more money in a nicer location. However, I guess I am a little concerned with the placement rates. From looking at both schools, it seems that UF has placed more people in TT university jobs than UCR (they still have a very high placement record, but a lot of them are at CC) over the last couple of years. I just don't know HOW concerned I should be about that.
