yank in the M20 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Hey guys, I saw a posting on the results board yesterday that someone had heard from Bloomington, email from faculty. Do you know if they've contacted all of their accepts yet or is this a late fellowship notification (there were a few fellowship nominations a few weeks ago)? Any news would help all of us sitting here biting our nails.
bopel88 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I think that Bloomington breaks their applications into focus area and then once each area committee makes a decision they notify the potential candidates. I saw some posts as early as the the beginning of February saying people heard back with a fellowship offer. My focus area is 19th Cent British/Transatlantic and I heard from a Victorianist by email that I was accepted with a fellowship. Still awaiting the formal offer, which I should get in the mail. So, I don't think Bloomington is done sending out the good news. Hang in there and best of luck!!!!
bopel88 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I forgot to mention that I heard back this past Tuesday the 28th.
yank in the M20 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Thanks boppel88--that's good news for the rest of us. Not an implicit rejection yet. And congratulations, it's a great program.
Rupert Pupkin Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) With 6 acceptances up, I don't like my chances. Edited March 3, 2012 by Rupert Pupkin
pinkrobot Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Hi all, I was accepted by phone today, and I'm completely freaking out. Best of luck to all!!!
pinkrobot Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 thanks so much! I'm late 19th and 20th century American.
royo0210 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Hey all, I just received an email accepting me to the PhD program with the info that I am wait-listed for a first-year fellowship. So it looks like they are still sending out acceptances. Good luck to all!
yank in the M20 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 I emailed the graduate secretary and she said that all notifications have gone out--those nominated for fellowships were informed by email/phone, the rest of us will get hard copies of their decisions in the post. At least we'll know for sure soon.
WendyMoira Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Just got an acceptance off the wait-list. SO. EXCITED. I feel like I'm coming in really late in the game. Anyone know details on this wait-list for first-year funding, etc? Have they just had a visit weekend and that's why someone declined? Any details you all have would be great. Now I have a really tough decision to make...Texas, Florida, Indiana?
portlandfioretti Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I just checked the mail and found a letter saying that I am "high on [their] waiting list". Given my lack of plausible options, I emailed them to say that I would like to keep my place on the list. However, I am wondering how anyone affords to go there w/o a first year fellowship? If you know the ins and outs of their funding, please share. From what I can tell, I'd be on my own financially for the first and responsible for paying tuition. Also the AI offers for the other years don't seem to be very good - not really enough to live on from what I can see. Despite the crappy funding, CUNY Grad Center is looking better and better.
WendyMoira Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I know what you mean. I'm looking at an offer from UT and it's much better, from what I can tell. I do love Indiana's kick-ass Victorianists, though... Apparently I was supposed to have received the same letter you did before my acceptance email today (still haven't gotten the wait-list letter; I had no idea). I'm told I'll get a more detailed offer letter tomorrow. I'll try to remember to post more specifics on the funding situation.
gradschoolwannabe Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Heard from the Grad Dept. that they sent out all the letters on Friday.
