MarketingPhD2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 How likely do you all think schools actually pull someone from their alternate list?
john-smith536 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I'm no expert, but my guess is that people reject offers all the time. I mean imagine how many schools people apply to even though they want to go to one particular one. I'd say the chances are good that they take a few from the waitlists.
We regret to inform you Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I think it's safe to say that LOTS of programs will make offers to at least a few people who were initially waitlisted simply because it is very unlikely that every single applicant who is given a "first round" offer will always accept the offer.
MarketingPhD2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Thanks, folks! I guess the only bad thing about being on a waiting list is that I am in for an even longer wait for a final decision!
MsBOOM Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm going to tell you that I'm pretty sure someone is going to get into Yale (off of their waitlist) if Harvard grants me admission... so...
MarketingPhD2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 How does the alternate list work anyways? If the schools have to go to their alternate list after April 15, are interviews still conducted until they find "the right candidate"?

Agreed. Your top choice may not be theirs, they may get a better funding offer somewhere else, anything could cause them to decline the offer. If you're at the bottom of the waitlist, it might be another story, unless it's very short, in which case they probably expect to be able to admit you.
