mochadouble Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 hiya long time lurker first time poster. anyone hear yet from the ecm masters at oxford?? the wait's killing me. seems like everyone here has applied to the us programs like at yale, michigan, and duke. ps: how does the 1 year oxford program compare to those 2 year programs?
curlie-sue Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 (edited) Hey, I finally just heard - after like 5 months. I got in! Did you hear yet? Edited March 20, 2012 by curlie-sue
curlie-sue Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 about the 2 year vs 1 year... I wish I had some answers about this too. 1 year seems really fast.
Varulv Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Hi, I applied to the ECM for the November deadline and got an email for re-evaluation during second deadline. Haven't heard back from them yet. I got waitlisted in Yale and admitted to HEC Paris (Sustainable Development). Regarding 1 vs. 2-year: Formally, it is the same degree, but obviously employer will know the difference. The ECM is also much more interdisciplinary than the MEM in Yale.
curlie-sue Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Varulv, I also got the re-eval email back in Dec (I think). Hope you hear good news soon!!
Varulv Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 still haven't heard anything. Thinking about calling them on Monday... do you think that's a good idea?
curlie-sue Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 yah, calling will probably you give you some piece of mind and I dont think it can hurt
Varulv Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 I called today. They told me that they have not finished the process yet, but that I should be notified "in a week". They also mentioned that its likely that I will get re-evaluated again in the third phase. Stupid missing post-bachelor work experience...
curlie-sue Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 @varulv, good luck!!! How are you feeling about HEC? I'm also on Yale waitlist, let's hope we get off soon
Varulv Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 well, the problem with HEC is that, although the master's is in sustainble development, its still a business school. Recently, I have been doing a lot of research, which fits much better with the programmes in Yale and Oxford. I also met quite a few people who told me that HEC does not keep up with expectations students have, when they get there (Best Business School worldwide according to Financial Times). Also, living-wise, I'd prefer the UK or US to a suburb of Paris. So, let's keep fingers crossed.
Varulv Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 got admitted to the Carbon Finance Masters in Edinburgh. Might do that instead of HEC, if the others do not work out. What do you think?
Varulv Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 got a note on April 10th that my application will be re-evaluated again against the candidates who applied during the third phase... Still not sure about going to Paris or Edinburgh, if things dont work out.
curlie-sue Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Hmmm, I hope you find out soon! My god, this whole grad school process is excruciatingly long! Would you prefer Oxford or Yale do you think?
Varulv Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I would have chosen Oxford over Yale, but I got rejected now after two re-evaluations. I also heard from the admission officer that the class in Yale is full. Looks like I am going to Edinburgh after all. What about you?
curlie-sue Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Hey Varulv, Sorry to hear about Oxford Yale will maybe still work out? I still haven't gotten an email from them updating the waitlist, have you? I wonder when they will put us out of our misery. But I am sure we'll have an incredible experience, learning and otherwise, wherever we end up. Edinburgh will be absolutely amazing, no doubt.
Varulv Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I believe they sent out emails with a general update to everyone on the waitlist. I am sure you got one as well.
