champagnecake Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Hey, has anyone heard a peep from Brandeis Neat Eastern and Judaic Studies? I applied to the PhD program, and I have not heard anything. Anything? Rejections? Wait Lists? Admits? Deferred to the MA? Let me know!
ûl ʾašerātō Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Hey, has anyone heard a peep from Brandeis Neat Eastern and Judaic Studies? I applied to the PhD program, and I have not heard anything. Anything? Rejections? Wait Lists? Admits? Deferred to the MA? Let me know! I've seen a few people who have been accepted on the results survey. I have seen many more who have been deferred to the MA program with varying funding. Have you searched for it on the results survey?
champagnecake Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 I did check the survey. I find it odd they are deferring people before they send out yes's and no's. I called yesterday, and the woman in the office said they are still making decisions. Oh well. B'hatzlacha!

I think they typically defer applications they like, but not well enough for the PhD to the MA program. So, the MA offers are de facto rejections.
champagnecake Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 I was just accepted to NEJS PhD! Good luck to everyone else.

edenseye Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I just got deferred to the MA program in NEJS. I guess it is a rejection in a way, but it also let me try to cast my net high. I wish every PhD program would do that! Good luck everyone!
champagnecake Posted March 17, 2012 Author Posted March 17, 2012 It isn't really a "rejection". I strongly urge you to email the professors with whom you had hoped to work and ask about your application. Be prepared to hear things you may not want to hear, but they may give you some very constructive feedback. Best of luck. Feel free to private message me if you decide on the NEJS MA. I'd love to get to know other incoming NEJS people.
