smj460 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Hello everyone, I was hoping to find someone who could answer a question for me regarding applying for IGERT and what it means for acceptance into the departmental PhD. Here is my scenario: I applied to Columbia Civil Engineering PhD and have yet to hear back from them. Last week, however, I received an email from Columbia IGERT congratulating me that my application was being considered for IGERT funding and that I should write an additional application to them. I did of course, but was wondering if this meant that I was already accepted by the department. If they congratulated me on being considered by IGERT, does this mean I was accepted into the school? Furthermore, if I was accepted, would the department hold off an giving me funding until my application to IGERT is put through? I realize this question is quite niche, but I was hoping someone knowledgable might be able to help. Thanks in advance, S
Xelfin Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 It's impossible to say without knowledge of this exact IGERT program. For example, I was admitted to an IGERT program at a different university, but I was not informed that I was being considered for it before my official acceptance to the University itself, and both of the acceptances came together.
starmaker Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Yeah, I got my acceptance for IGERT and the university at the same time.

Thanks in advance, S I am in the exact same situation as you are, but my major is in structural engineering. Have no idea if this fellowship application has been short-listed or every applicant received the same email.
smj460 Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 I wish the departments didn't keep us in the dark. This application system does little to keep us in the loop.
