StephanieJ Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 So I went to Indiana University to tour the program and meet faculty/students. Absolutely fell in love with SPEA and will happily pursue my Masters of Public Affairs there. When I got home and checked my email, I was ecstatic to find I had been awarded a Fulbright ETA to Poland for next year. Excited to defer admission at IU for this opportunity. It's so funny how a day ago I had NO idea where my life was going. contretemps, DualCitizenIR and O1O11OOO1O1 3
Fasnacht Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Wow! Poland is a beautiful country. I'm sure it'll be awesome. Congratulations, StephanieJ!
StephanieJ Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 I spent a semester in Warsaw 2 years ago. I'm SO SO SO happy to be returning in a few short months.
coonskee Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 I lived there for several years and go back almost every summer (lived in Krakow/Warsaw, travelled to the North a lot). You said you've been, but in case you have any questions, lemme know! I'll try to answer them as best I can.

I'm kind of disappointed that I won't be in the outh because I really wanted to be in the southern part. My family is in Katowice, a good friend in Wroclaw, and all my study abroad friends are in Warsaw. Good thing is a 6 hour train ride doesn't scare me

Good thing is a 6 hour train ride doesn't scare me Yeah, the trains are totally fine as long as you don't mind no A/C (and avoid overnight trains). My dad was born in Gdansk and my mom's from Gdynia originally - Trojmiasto is really quite fun, and if you're there in July, you can go to the four-day outdoor music festival (Heineken Open'er). There's a beach that's fun to hang out at (being near the sea is AWESOME), and a lot of bars/clubs along the beach between the three cities (Gdansk, Gdynia, Sopot); there's also the Bar Przystan that you'll hae to check out - especially if it's a cooler summer day, get fish'n'chips there (fish is fresh) and ask for miod pitny (mead) or wino grzane (mulled wine). Super yum! If you move in the summer, tehre's a LOT of young people around, too. Good luck!
StephanieJ Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 I'm just excited for some piwo miodowa! I miss the honey beer.
coonskee Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I only ever had piwo z soczkiem (with juice) - tyskie with a bit of raspberry syrup, yum yum!
StephanieJ Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 Blech. They kept telling me I had to drink the piwo z sokiem because that's what girls drink. I thought it was disgusting...

I usually drink regular beer, but I love piwo z soczkiem in the summer - I find it refreshing. Amusingly, I was introduced to it by an ex-bf who drank it all the time... but after dating him a while, I'm pretty sure he might be gay (for a variety of other reasons), so
