prettyuff1 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 So I wanted to know if this has happened to anyone.I applied to 8 programs. I got accepted to a program that is out of state , but i stil have applications pending with 3 schools in state. I have been checking online to my status, but no change from being reviewed by the department.. My applications were complete before the deadline and i havent heard a yay or nay, not even a your waitlisted.. Just nothing. I have contacted the department twice and gotten nothing as far as a status update or some progression in the process.. Some apps were complete in early Jan and still nothing... I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with this. Or never heard the official no from a department. I am assuming its a no since we are at the deadline for acceptance. I told the out of state school yes, but i was hoping to stay in state. Thanks.
go3187 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I applied as an international student, and all my friends were international students as well, but some of us only received rejections months after April 15th... some time during the summer. I guess it can happen for US students too. Congratulations on the fully-funded PhD program!
prettyuff1 Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 Thanks. THe fully funded program that i am in is out of state. I have a school age child that really likes being near his cousins and such. I was hoping to keep him growing up near his support system. But we will brave the new world and move to Ky from Illinois.... I still have my fingers crossed for uic.. even as i prepare to fax an apartment application to louisville
deadlyrice Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I am still waiting on 3 schools as well. I emailed them earlier this month and they said they were still in the decision process and it would take 1-2 weeks. So far nothing...
geauxtigers Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Not sure if you still haven't heard back, but I would call them if I were you because I did that with my last school today (heard nothing for 3 months) and she claimed they sent out emails a month ago (did not receive it) and she also said she would send me that email again today (still have not received it). Technical issues happen, I suppose. So that's why you have to stay on their case - especially with these smaller schools. The other schools I applied to (all very big, well-known schools/programs) I had no problems with them. The way I see it, if we took the time to fill out their applications and pay them money - we deserve some kind of communication. Good luck.
stell4 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I haven't heard anything from three schools which is fine since I am already in my top choice. I agree with the poster above, I don't think it would hurt to give them a call, at least then you will know if it's still worth thinking about still or if it is time to say your good byes and head to KY
prettyuff1 Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 I haven't heard back from 2 of them. I called one who told me I should know by Wednesday. I would be nice to get in one of these three because it would be easier on my little guy. I just thought there would be some kind of letter if it was a no
crazygirl2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I already accepted an offer so I probably shouldn't care, but the fact that I've heard nothing from 3 of my 10 schools is really bothering me! One of those was after an interview. It wouldn't have been a good fit-- I knew it and I guess they knew it-- but I still wish they had bothered to reject me since I spent a weekend with them. My POI did acknowledge my thank you email, but that was it. Nothing official. I've never heard anything from the other 2 and probably never will.
SapphireSeaLion Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Depending on when the deadlines were, you should be hearing in early May. The schools I applied to with deadlines in March said that's when I'd be hearing, and one school with a February deadline isn't making decisions until May either. Having been through the "I'm never getting in!" up until yesterday, just hang on. It'll make it sweeter when you get it.
prettyuff1 Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Well the deadline was in mid jan and I applied before then. I was supposed to hear from uic today per the program director. But nothing. I understand the backlog but I think by almost may it's time to crap or get off the pot
Galahad Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 It happens. I applied to NYU Steinhardt and heard from them only this morning, eleven days AFTER the national reply date by email that I was rejected. >.< Still got into my 1st choice so all was cool but still... it's not unusual, unfortunately.
