seasel Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 So I'm still waiting on most of my schools to get back to me, but I've started thinking about my plan B options. If I don't get into grad school this year I want to apply again for the spring or next fall, but here is my question. Won't it be weird asking professors that I haven't seen for months to write me another letter of recommendation? I hope my professors will remember me, as I know them quite well, but what if they don’t? Should I ask them to save the letters of recommendation that wrote me this year so I can reuse them next year? Has anyone had experience with this? I just don’t know how to handle re-applying after I graduate, if it comes to that. phredd 1
go3187 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Whether or not you are accepted somewhere, I think you should let the professors who wrote your LOR know the outcome. And if you don't get accepted, you can also let them know that you are planning to re-apply next year, and would appreciate if they could help you again with a LOR. They can then decide whether they want to save the LOR that they wrote this year, and/or write you a new one. What are you planning to do during your gap year? If you are going to work, do research, anything that would help your application, then you should let your professors know about that too. TropicalCharlie 1
isawstars Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 ^^^ she gave you some great advice. I've been out of college for 2 years now and applied this year. I was nervous about asking professors for LORs but they were so happy to do it. I don't think it'll be an issue if I can go 2 years without talking to profs. I'm still waiting to hear back as well. Good luck
Rachel B Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 I even suggest to people who aren't considering grad school for another few years to contact potential recommendation writers now to write a letter and keep it on file until it's needed. Whether they apply in two years or ten, there's that letter waiting for them that was written while the professor still had a good memory of their abilities.
