Teelee Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Hi gang, Many graduate fellowships are geared toward those just starting out in graduate school. Does anyone know any fellowships for advanced/doctoral stage graduate students? Thanks in advance.
snowblossom2 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 There's tons of dissertation fellowships - both for the collecting data stage and the writing stage (though these are not mutually exclusive). I'd say there's more than for those starting out. What's your field of study? The NSF has a doctoral dissertation improvement grant (that's a competitive one that cross fields).
Teelee Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 I am looking for dissertation fellowships in science - Biology/plant science
snowblossom2 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I'm no where near that field, so all I could recommend concretely is the NSF DDIG. You could also google biology dissertation fellowships, look at the CVs of recent graduates, I'm sure your school has a list of external funding fellowships and you can look through that...
Eigen Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Professional societies are also a good place to look. Ours pretty much exclusively offers fellowships to people in years 3+.
riceandbeans Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Ford Foundation has a dissertation write-up fellowship. Also (dependent on your gender), the Association for Women in Science have some awards for which late-stage grad students are eligible.
msafiri Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 There are loads of dissertation writing fellowships out there. Search for them via UIUC or Cornell's fellowship search pages. Also, NSF DDIG, AAUW, Mellon, etc., depending on exactly what stage you're at.
