I'm starting in the fall too, though technically I guess I started this summer when I took a summer course.

What courses are you in?

Hi! I'll be starting an MA in literature this fall. I'm from Texas, so I'm REALLY looking forward to living in a climate that doesn't involve 110-degree summers.

It sure would be great to hear opinions on housing in the area. It seems like rent is cheap in west Philly, but the public transportation costs would be nearly $150 per month! For that price, I may as well live in an upscale suburb like Ardmore and bike to campus. I'm also looking into roommate matching options, but haven't really come up with anything yet. Thoughts?

Hi Khyleth,

I'll be starting the English MA program in the fall too - were you at the thesis symposium this last weekend by any chance? I'm also currently living in Texas, and share your sentiments exactly  ;). I'm hoping to find a place in the Bryn Mawr or Ardmore area, since I could just take the train a few minutes to campus, and central Philadelphia still seems easily accessible from there. While it looks like a studio or 1-bedroom will run you at least $800 in these areas, I've been able to find several two-bedroom listings on Craigslist with reasonable rents - have you been able to access the roommate matching form on the Villanova website? Feel free to PM me if you want to chat more the university or program :)

I'll PM you Junia.

To correct what I said above for any lurkers: it looks like transportation costs from west Philly would be about $80 per month.

Hey everyone! I'm an incoming English MA student as well. I didn't make it to the thesis symposium due to surgery, but I did visit for the Open House. It looks like a great environment; I'm super excited to start.

Hooray! I've been in touch with a couple of current students about housing; their insights were really helpful. I'll be happy to copy those emails to you (or put you in touch with them yourself) via PM.

I'd like to start this thread again. Not for housing but to find out what Villanova generally is like especially the Political Science program. I tried searching their website to see if I could get contacts of either current student or alumni but I didn't see anything like that. Would like to find out what the program is like; the faculty and staff and things like that from a more practical level.
