Guest Guest Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Hey guys, I checked my application status online just now, and for some reason, it now has my application status as "Incomplete" because it says that they did not receive my transcript from my undergraduate institution. But I KNOW I definitely sent it in, and in fact, I remember it being sent in and checked off before I finished writing my essays. In January my application packet was complete. Now it's not. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE? What should I do? Do you think they're just changing a bunch of stuff right now in preparation for releasing the awardees?
Guest guest Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 i checked mine, and it still shows complete...
menachem Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I would email them and ask them about it. A few times I've had similar problems, emailed them at ndseg@asee.org, and they were always very prompt and helpful. It can't hurt and I think they would know best what's going on. Good luck.
Guest liquidmethane Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 When should we expect decisions to come out? The documentation says "on or about March 31," but does anyone know when people were notified last year? To the OP, my application status is "complete" and hasn't changed in months. Hopefully there's some kind of mistake with yours...
menzies Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 This is the OP... I remember them posting on time last year, definitely before NSF, but NSF was late last year, I think around April 8th. Thanks menachem, I gave them a call and left a message, but haven't heard back. I emailed them a couple nights ago when I discovered the error, and still haven't heard back. They must be swamped in emails. I'll try again tomorrow and let you guys know!
Guest liquidmethane Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Good luck! Hopefully the bureacracy doesn't get you down...
menzies Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 OK! I called the folks at ASEE, and they said that their overall status page is not working. Hopefully that means that my application, which showed complete in January, is still complete. =)
Guest liquidmethane Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 One week and counting until the 31st!
Guest guest Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I have the same transcript problem, and I both called and emailed. They said that the status page hasn't been working, so if you are still worried, you can ask them (as I did on the phone) to double check your status. They told me that my application was in fact complete, so that was a load off my mind!
Guest guest Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Do any of you guys (or gals as the case may be) know what the approximate percentage of acceptences is? For the NSF GRFP its about 10%. Is the NDSEG similar or more selective?
menzies Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 They have stats in the FAQ section, I believe, but NDSEG is not as broad as NSF. They have fewer fellowships to give, and the proposal should be geared towards research the US military is interested in (these research topics are posted on the research department websites for each branch of the military). That said, a lot of folks (including me last year) just send in their NSF proposal and think that it's OK. It's not. I think overall the percentages are pretty low (about the same as NSF), but I don't know the percentages for people who actually have research the military is interested in.
Guest guest Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 For stats, check the bottom of the page here: http://www.asee.org/ndseg/preface.cfm The overall percentage is 5%. The acceptance rate ranges from 3% in a few fields to 33% in Ocean Engineering/Naval Architecture.
Guest guest Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Anyone think we'll hear back today? NSF is out today so what do y'all think?
menzies Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I think we'll hear back tonight at around midnight Eastern time (9PM pacific for me). Last year, I believe that was when the list was posted online.
Guest guest Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Oh, so they don't notify you over email? How is it done then? Where do they post the list?
Guest too much Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I think we'll hear back tonight at around midnight Eastern time (9PM pacific for me). Last year, I believe that was when the list was posted online. Oh, man. This and NDSEG in the same day? I think this calls for a few beers.
menzies Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I didn't get it last year (not that I was expecting it...) and I remember not getting a notification. I'm not sure whether or not the winners get an email, though I would expect them to.
Guest guess w/ issues Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 *** taking out the wine coolers *** Yea bring on NDSEG... I don't think I can take another rejection in less than 24 hours. Less than 5 hours till we find out *** pops the seal on the first one ***
menzies Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 We don't, officially, but I remember that being how it went down last year. I could be wrong.
Guest guest from another thread Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 dudes...i'm getting all excited and nervous and i didn't even apply for this thing!
