ucflipcat Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I want the easter bunny to come and deliver in this fellowship
Guest also waiting Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 NSF emailed around 3:30pm central time. close to COB.
Guest guest Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 "When should we expect decisions to come out? The documentation says "on or about March 31," but does anyone know when people were notified last year?" This is from my friend: "Accept notifications last year were sent 3:26 pm EST on Wednesday, March 30th. Rejects were not emailed. Results were posted the next day on their website. My essay was not at all defense-related, and I received the fellowship."
ucflipcat Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 What were your stats and what can we compare too?, Do you go to MIT, a lot of ppl got Fellowships from there, no offense. Ive been watching this all day, putting off my research, lame i know.

Guest guest Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Clarification...his institution on the website is listed as MIT. He's in computer science.
Guest guest Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 It's over -- they just emailed their notification to the fellowship winners.
Guest REJECTED! Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 damn... It doesn't hurt as much as the NSF for some reason?
ucflipcat Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 did anyone actually call, or just hoping upon hope, its an email lock :-(
Guest guest Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 My friend's girlfriend just got her notification email (she won an award).
Guest praying for email lock Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 praying for an email lock *crosses fingers*
Guest Disagree Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I really wonder what their criterion is. I have a great gpa, excellent recommendations, undergrad research experience, etc. Got into two of the top three EE programs in the country. I guess it was dumb of me not to make military applications of my research interests more apparent.
ucflipcat Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Well hopefully my GK-12 gets renewed for track 2 Email lock, its caught up in the system somewhere
Guest guest Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Disagree: Don't worry about it. Think about it like this..MIT, for example, accepts about 80 CS PhD's each year. Out of those 80, definitely less than 5 might receive the NDSEG fellowship. It is *ultra*-competitive. After they narrow down to a few good candidates, they only can offer to a small number of them...to a certain extent it's luck.
Guest over? Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 So its officially over? No chances left? Mother #$%$*@!
ucflipcat Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Well i guess it means work harder for next year, I will actually apply to NSF this year, b/c no one at my undergrad told me about it until it was to late :-(
Guest Disagree Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 The most annoying thing for me is that I rejected another fellowship late last month. Had the NDSEG organization met their initial notification date, at least I'd not be out of luck on both...Ah well. You take risks and lose sometimes. The second most annoying thing is that I know two guys from my school who have won the NDSEG in the past four years who's stats really don't compare to mine. Sucky.
Guest Disagree Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 By the way, for those who either won or have close friends who won, I'd greatly appreciate if they could post their relevant information here, especially their "connection with military interests" section. I'll be reapplying early in the fall, and hopefully the second time will go better.
