lasgirl Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) Hi! I'm a current MA student in regional studies applying for PhD programs in Anthropology. All of the programs explicitly state that a background in anthropology is not required, as long as you have social studies research experience (which I have plenty of!). Should I explain why I chose to go with anthropology? Of course, my proposed research topic is based on anthropology and my MA thesis will be written anthropologically, but do I need to be even more explicit with it? Edited October 25, 2012 by lasgirl
anthropologygeek Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 By stating what you want to study basically should explain in itself the reason for switching fields
grinsngiggles Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 You should explain why participant observation is the ideal way to approach your research. Why is ethnography the way to get at your topic? You don't have to justify the switch, but I think it helps to show that you at least know what the discipline is about and are prepared to do intensive fieldwork.
