ksr3k9 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 I'm a senior at a university in Missouri, and I am wanting to apply to get my masters in secondary education. Problem is, I don't have money for the GRE ($170 to take a glorified SAT??? ) . Most of my college funding is from grants and loans. So, does anyone know of any graduate programs for education that don't require the GRE? **fingers crossed**
dendy Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 If you're really poor you can apply for a GRE fee waiver or reduction: http://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/gre_fee_reduction_certificate.pdf If you really can't afford the GRE how are you going to afford all the school application fees?
juilletmercredi Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Applying to graduate school is an investment. All of the application fees, transcript requests, and testing fees add up. Perhaps you should hold off on graduate school until you can save the money for the fees? The only reason I suggest this is that I don't feel that you should make decisions about your future - including the rigor of your grad program - on the basis of a $170 test. Bearcat1 and kaykaykay 2
staceyjo Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 There are a lot of education schools that don't require GREs. I do agree with everyone else though, application fees can be as much as $200 plus the fees for transcripts. Also, unless you are in a field in education that requires a masters to teach, it's going to be a lot harder to find a job with a M ED and 0 experience. In undergrad I was an education major and I can't believe your school hasn't told you to teach first and use your masters for your cont. ed credits.
