Most places, regardless, give you free room and board (and sometimes transportation, depending on where they're located). Not a great idea if you really intend to make money, but for those who just want work experience or to build character and do something they've never done before, I think it's good to look into! A friend of mine volunteered for a couple of months several summers ago, met some other really cool volunteers and overall had a great experience. http://www.wwoof.org/ The website also has options for international travel, so if you want to get out of the country you should look into it.
