You can volunteer at a farm. :P Some are paid, if I remember correctly. Most places, regardless, give you free room and board (and sometimes transportation, depending on where they're located). Not a great idea if you really intend to make money, but for those who just want work experience or to build character and do something they've never done before, I think it's good to look into! A friend of mine volunteered for a couple of months several summers ago, met some other really cool volunteers and overall had a great experience.

Have you looked into state parks and national parks? They hire a lot of seasonal employees in the summer. I used to work summers in the nature center and gift shop at a state park.
